Or just my imagination that a year or two ago a 25' chunk of 1" square 16 gauge(1/16") tubing was far less than the $50 quoted today?

Looks $.88/lb a year ago and just a smidge above $.81 now. Finished prices may be up, but raw prices are down. Did you really want an answer?

$.81/lb..that's London Exchange price! Current yard price for extrusion is more like $.60/lb, and even less for cast, cans, or #2 dirty price. Scrap aluminum and a lot of other scrap metals are on a downward slide, but speculation on finished grade products is going nuts right now.
