Ok, here's the deal. I have two used laptops (both work, just one is slooooow). The PC I'm going to use has an older version of office, and the slow one has a newer version. I can update the older one to the new version (I think) if I have the reg # from the newer version. Still following me? Good. Is there a way to get the reg # from the newer version so I can update the older version. I don't have the discs anymore and these were both used computers so I don't know where the #s are. Can you help me?

I think if you go to Start>Control Panel>System the General tab has listed who the windows is registered to and the serial #. I don't think you are going to be able to do what you want to do without the discs though.

Open the new word, go to the help menu, go to about microsoft word. I think it might have the number there.
Without the CD, it might be impossible. Waiting for someone smarter than me to chime in.

Man, I was excited to see 8 posts so quick. Little did I know there were only 3 actual posts
How about this? I take the whole microsoft office folder, drag it to a thumb drive, and plop that on the other PC? Would that work? I don't want to buy another version of word since I have 2 here that are paid for!......well, and because Gates is the devil.

That won't work. You can use a little app called Produkey to recover your Windows & Office CD keys. I've used it quite a bit. It's been a lifesaver.
