Now that fuel prices are lower, are you driving more, driving the truck or big car more?
with sub $2 a gallon fuel, i can actually afford to drive my little truck again, but ive chosen not too, despite the fact i really enjoy driving it much more than the honda. i only drive it a few times a month, or on special occasions, it has become a true "sunday" driver, id rather take the savings that driving my honda provides. between the switch to the honda, and the currently lower fuel costs, im spending about $350 less per month on fuel costs, pretty substantial, but its all going to paying down some debt at the moment. I need fuel prices to stay at this level for at least a year for it so make any real difference, and i have my doubts about that happening.
so are you back to the same old driving habits, or have you decided to stick with the gas savers?
Gas Savers for me..
I think sales of trucks had a small uptick, Prius sales are WAY down.. but.. I don't think people are interested in changing their habits too much, because they saw extra money in the wallet.
I still have $4 gas in my Spider there is no way I can justify driving it. HA!
Cheers
Ron
I am driving a bigger car now, but my choice to do so had no connection whatsoever to the price of fuel. Instead, it was related to comfort and my desire to try something different. I would've probably made the same move if fuel were still $4/gal.
I feel like I drive less now than I did before the cost of fuel increased over the past couple of years, but I think of that as a 50/50 no longer having a girlfriend who lives 35 miles away/increased price of fuel.
Well, I did just buy a Ford conversion van, but that was going to happen if fuel were high or not. I will mainly be using it for driving to the track for flagging duties (the wife sits in T&S, where the weather is reasonable). It's cheaper than hotel rooms, and we're there at the track, no driving to and from at the beginning and end of each day. Otherwise, I'm trying to stay on the bike.
The lower prices HAVE influenced me.
I had Almost decided to buy a vintage gas skimper,
before the decline.
The Toytoter is a good freeway comuter. Sits up high with a Huge chrome brush/ bump bar.
But gets < 17 mpg.
And when the weekly fillups passed $50 !@#
I looked at selling or storing it until towing season.
We will now see what 2009 brings...
Yep, decided to not sweat it and just drive the cars we have.
I got sick of hearing the "experts" crowing how gas prices going up were going to happen for a long time, we were just too stupid to notice it. And how, because of our evil greed and lazy requirement on oil, it'll continue to drive up. According to them, it should be at $5-6 dollars a gallon now. You heard it CONSTANTLY how we (or the big 3 or greedy Americans in general or....) were idiots because we didn't see this coming. Did someone say "I predict gas prices are going to rise!" Sure, they have for 30 years....
Hindsight is 20-20. It's easy to "predict" gas prices and be right 50% of the time.
I heard, from another "expert" they expect oil to drop to $25 a barrel in the near future. I say there's a 50/50 chance it'll happen.
I don't think ANYONE can say, exactly, why the prices went up or why they are going down. They can make guesses, predictions, research, etc, but they won't be right 100% of the time.
I'm going to drive. Prices will fluctuate. When it stays at a point that it really affects my checkbook, I'll do something about it. Otherwise, I'll enjoy my truck when we have to go to the track with my son's kart, I'll enjoy my MINI and I'll enjoy lighting up the rear tires of my wife's Charger (when she lets me drive it).
I predict
there is a direct correlation between the price of gas and the media's font size and color on "news" stories. If they say "OMG!! GAS PRICES ARE HIGH!" in big red letters with scary musical intros, prices will go up and SUV prices will go down. If they don't say anything, prices will go back down.
But I'm no "expert". I'd be a lot richer if I was!!

to be fair I had gas savers before $4 gas.. and will afterwards cause I am cheap!!!!!!1111111111111111!!1111111!!1111
Driving the benz and getting 15mpg mid-grade/premium is not very smart if gas is above 4$ a gallon b/c with a 24gallon tank it cost what 96$ to fill. With gas prices high I drive the Buell mostly, with cheap prices I drive the car mostly. When I finish cleaning out my pickup and put the new carpet in I might drive that more. It gets above 25mpg and will haul 1000pounds so it is really good. I don't see what the point in the large pickups are, unless you have a need to tow or haul regularly. Most people are poseurs though and they pay for it in gas and maintanence.
