I just moved back from Germany a few days ago and am back in my hometown on the job hunt. I am waiting to hear back from two jobs that I am very excited about, but the hiring for that happens in a month or so. One of the advantages of being in my hometown is that my Alma Mater is here so I will be using the career services and job fairs. I have no desire to stay in Illinois/Midwest so if no job opportunities pan out here by May I will move out West to continue my search. But that is not the reason I am making this thread.

I am looking for ideas for part time/temp jobs while I sort of wait out these several months, for rent money and food. I know there are plenty of jobs as delivery driver, food runner, labourer, etc that I can find, but I also don't want to screw over a company if I know that I am going to be leaving in a few months. What sort of jobs would you all suggest to earn money? Again, I only plan to stay until May at the latest. Do most business on campus realize student workers are only available for a semester at a time anyway so I shouldn't worry about screwing the company by leaving?

I would think most of the companies with temp jobs realize they are, well, temporary.

The other thing is that while you plan to leave before May, reality has a way of thwarting people's plans. For that reason, I wouldn't really advertise that you're not planning to hang around.

If you're taking a temp job that's normally filled by student workers, they're very used to turnover. I wouldn't worry too much about it other than your pay will suck.

haven't read the rest of the answers yet ... but the folk that offer those sort of jobs know that the workers will go as fast as the come .. and usually no hard feelings... especially if you give notice as you leave

after reading ...what BoxheadTim said ... no reason to advertise your plans to leave ... even to you co-workers ... much less the management
