I’ve been an automotive regular almost forever but the one job I may best be known for has been replaced on modern vehicles. My position is secure though as I will always have various other duties in new vehicles and equipment. I may be ferrous or non, plastic, even been chromed. Most folks took me for granted until I was lost.
My name out of this context is used in certain sports arenas, politics and by some two wheeled vehicle enthusiasts.
What am I?
No, wait. Window winder crank.

That is what I guessed.

Who are three people who have never been in my kitchen?
Key x3. Do you walk to school, or carry your lunch?
More hints:
I'm probably best known for keeping a lid on things... in older vehicles.
Some Honda enthusiasts use my name.
My name is popular in an arena in Detroit.
In politics I can be left or right.
I was thinking ashtray but since you said "Popular in Detroit" I think you mean "crack"
