I have an item listed on Craigslist for local pick-up only.
I have someone from a few states over that expressed interest in the item. This item is over 400 lbs., and will require a lift gate and loading service. Since shipping will considerably open up my market, what is the best way to intersect quality and reliability? Does the buyer or seller typically arrange for delivery details?

Make sure to get an accurate wait. I got hit with an overage of several hundred dollars because of a bad estimate one time.
My weight is for the manufacturer's specifications rounded up to add the small pallet that I made. Since you mention it, I do not know if the weight specified is fully decked out wet, or dry without any attachments or oil. Since I do not have any way to measure the weight, adding an extra 50 lb. safety net would be a good idea.
I'm selling a giant stand mixer I listed in another thread, just for clarity's sake.
That mixer is a beast.Local restaurant supply may be interested if it is cheap enough. Shipping from your house would be problematic, you may have to take it to a trucking terminal to start the process.
I'm already undercutting the competition with a better product, but so far my only local interest has come from someone that lowballed my offer by half.
You're right; I should reach out directly to the local suppliers.

I use FreightQuote.com and have gotten the best pricing from them. I just had a race motor shipped to me (275#) from Topeka, Ks to Carlisle , Pa for pick up at the terminal for $217 including $6000 insurance coverage. Total cost #217. Not using FreghtQoute it would have been $287.
