So I got my new phone earlier in the week, android one moto x4.

It synced up and worked fine the day I got it streaming Pandora and doing calls.

Changing absolutely nothing on the phone or head unit, a Kenwood kdc-bt958hd, the phone no longer connects.

But in top of that, the Pandora option is totally gone, even though it is marked as "on".

In Bluetooth mode in the head unit, I can find the phone and connect to it, but once it passes the connection test, it asks to pair again, same device different pin number, and pretty much disappears from my phone.

The phone still connects to my Bluetooth sound bar in the house, I haven't tried it in the miata or tried another device with this head unit though.

I did do a factory reset to the head unit, I'm still missing source options, and it didn't change anything connection wise.

Any ideas? Kenwood user manual leaves a hell of a lot to be desired a far as trouble shooting or help goes.

When i had a similar issue, i called kenwood.  They sent me a file to put on a usb and instructions.  Somehow the actual programming had become corrupted and had to be reloaded.

Didn't work for me, but definitely worth a shot

I have a Kenwood Bluetooth head unit in my truck, and it did some weird crap last year; wouldn't connect to phones, options were missing, etc. (sound familiar?) I had to do a firmware upgrade by downloading updated firmware from their website to a USB stick and uploading it to the head unit. It's been fine ever since.

The closest thing I can find to firmware update on the website is their music player app. Even under my specific unit and coining the firmware link, just brings up their music player and something for iPod remote control.

I'm just going to swap in the one from the miata that's parked for the season and worry about it in the spring.

Maybe crutchfield or Amazon will have a decent Xmas sale to take advantage of.

I've had the same problem with bluetooth on every Kenwood head unit I've owned, including the Excelon line. Takes 5 minutes to sync, drops all the time, displays some track info sometimes, and loses contacts. Firmware updates are nice, but they often don't address this issue. Their DSP is excellent, but I'll be switching to another brand for my next one.

Sorry I'm no help with a solution frown

I have run into weird bluetooth issues with my phone ever since they pushed the update to nougat. That includes not syncing or applications that used to work fine (spotify) suddenly not showing up on my head unit. The only thing that fixed it for me was a tip I found online that called for rebooting the phone into safe mode, and then rebooting it into normal mode. Every time I do this, things start working again for some period of time.

On my phone, press the power button till the shutdown prompt comes up, then long press the shutdown dialogue until it turns into a "boot into safe mode" prompt. YMMV obviously.
