I know. "ZOMG YOU'RE GOING TO KILL THE CHILDREN!!!"

I average 2 speeding tix a year. I usually go to court, dress nice, smile, and get the fine knocked down and points knocked off.

However...I've gotten 2 in as many weeks. One local. One in South GA on the way back from Tampa. The local one I can probably get reduced or at least get the pts knocked off.

The "non-local" one has me a little freaked. Pretty sure it falls under the GA "Super-Speeder" thing (THANKS SONNY PERDUE, YOU COCK-WRANGLING GAYSLUR!)

Anyway, considering hiring a lawyer to make a phone call on the one-if not both. Haven't called to check the fines. Probably in the $600+ range for the two.

Lil help?

There is little money in legal work for speeding tickets so attorneys do not bother to spend advertising dollars for the little return on investment.
On the other hand, DUI pays well and is advertised heavily. DUI attorneys are the guys who go to traffic court.
Google up a local DUI attorney for the Southern ticket. Do not use a Northern attorney.
Point blank, ask the attorney if he knows the judge and how large a donation he made to the judge's re-election campaign.

Where in Ga? You need to hire a local for proper handling of any traffic ticket.

Lowndes county by chance? The Lowndes county sheriff's office patrols I-75 like nobody's business in the Valdosta area. Giant flaming you know whats.

If you received a court date for the Valdosta ticket, call their PD and and say that you're from out of town and would like to plead not guilty. They will likely counter in a day or two with 'pay the fine and we'll give you no points'.

If you're of the mind to hire a lawyer, it's almost always more effective to hire one familiar to the court where your case will be heard.

So, Poopshovel switches from Honda to Mazda and goes measurably faster? I guess he knows what "Mazdaspeed" really means now.

Wouldn't have done me any good. Ticket 1: Rocking the berkeley out. Couldn't here my cheapy detector, but it was going off like crazy. Just happened to look down and see the lights.

Ticket 2: Had radar unplugged while the kiddo was napping. I seriously had the cruise set at 10 over most of the trip. Got greedy and went for 14 - got away with it with multiple laser beeps, so figured I was cool...then I passed a line of lane-jamming numbtards with the hammer down. Ooopsadaisey.

Anyway. Good news. Called an attorney yesterday. Wanted $300 to get the points dropped but said there's no way they'd drop the fine. Ummm. Okay. I can do that myself.

Showed up early, talked to DA for 10 seconds. Dropped to 10 over. No points. No record. No court. They got their money.

Hopefully round 2 goes just as well. Heading to Orlando next weekend to play a show. Figure I'll just pop in and say "HOWDY Y'ALL" on the way down.

Weird one: On the "You are hereby ordered to appear in court on the _ day of _ at ____ AM/PM" officer droopy dog put "45 days." - what he meant was that the ticket was to be paid in 45 days if I was to enter a guilty plea (by paying.) I figure it's worth a call to a local lawyer and say "What if I happened to show up 45 days later, having driven 3 hours down, and there was no court?" I'm guessing tickets have been thrown out for less.

Ya know, I'd written off a buddy's recommendation for one a few years ago. It probably would've paid for itself by now.
