In reply to Anti-stance:

LOL my car has been sitting for two weeks because I can't afford a fuel pump. I'm sacrificing my car wants for my wife and kid.

Two years ago I joined NASA because I wanted to get involved in racing. I was going to go down to Road Atlanta to work a weekend just to get involved with something I love. Requested that weekend off work two months in advance. Got it approved. Reminded the boss every day for two weeks leading up to it. He sent me out of town for a four day job on that Thursday. I realized then that being involved with racing was just a pipe dream.

Unless the future brings me boat loads of money it ain't gonna happen.

I hear ya, but like I said, you never know if some job opportunity comes up in the future. Working NASA SE events is how I got to do all but 1 of my track weekends.

I actually have 102 items on my gearhead bucket list. I started it when I was deployed in 2011 inspired by an article in a lesser car magazine. I took a lot of those items and replaced others. So far I have done 14 of them. The list may change, but I think its a good motivator when I am on the computer instead of the garage. It also helps with vacation planning.

I am deployed and bored, so I will type them all here. Mods delete if I am being a thread hog.

No Drag Week? No Power Tour? No One Lap of America?

I want to expand my list to include Drag Week (provided it is still around when I can afford to attend) and do one of the many "True Street" races where you have to go cruise 30 miles then run 3 back to back passes and not break. Oh, and all those passes better be faster then 9.50-ish in the 1/4.....

Actually Drag Week, Power Tour and One Lap are on there, but they relate to a lesser publication and I didn't want to put them here.

  1. Finish fixing the stuff on my 300SD so its how I want it (wheels and tires, real euro lights, more maintenance stuff, etc).
  2. Buy and drive regularly both an 70s-80s exotic sports car (like a 308 GT4, Urraco, Citroen SM, etc) and either a Quattroporte III or Aston Martin Lagonda.

Sorry, but my goals are much less ambitious...

Have enough free time on my hands to actually wash all my cars, let alone complete an engine swap. If I get 30 minutes a month to work on my project car, I'm thrilled.
