I can't really do that because we can only get burning permits when there's an inch of snow on the ground. Outside of that, there's the whole arson/lose-my-job thing.

Brush is $70 per yard here.
Great Scott! I can drop off as much as I want for free, then pick up the mulch (when available) for free. I park my big old Dooley by the pile and they have a guy load it up. For free. One more reason to like it here!
Another use for a small chipper might be turning yardwaste and compost in small bits that compost better.
I've got a good compost pile going, but shredding it would be awesome.

Around here, the fire department will burn your house down. Not for fun, but for "practice." Maybe they would be interested in "practicing" on a brush pile?
Probably less trouble to just buy or rent a chipper and push the stuff through. Small brush like that in my chipper needs to be cut into basically one branch pieces. The big shute will get clogged if you try to just push in a tangled mess. I've run entire oak tree tops through it in an hour or two.
Us southern boys love a good burn pile, but my Connecticut neighbors not so much. Under no conditions should you put poison ivy vines in it.
This thread interests me....
A couple months ago I posted about getting rid of the woodpeckers that were chipping away at two very dead pines. Well, the peckers are gone because the trees are gone; cut down last week. The guy(s) who did the work cut the trunks into manageable lengths and I wheel-barrowed them out last weekend. All that's left is a 5' high, 10' diameter pile of branches.
My BIL picked up two non-working wood chippers but is notorious for not getting around to fixing things. But, he does have a fully functional fire-ring. The town doesn't allow burning within its' limits but it does allow fire-pits. I like sitting next to a fire and enjoying some adult beverages.
I could be onto to something here.
The one I bought at Lowes is like this: Linkey.
It is a "Yard Machines" brand. Probably private label.
Good luck finding one, maybe Craigslist will help, but my buddy has an old troybilt super tomahawk 2. Like from the 70s old.
We haven't been able to stall it yet and fires up on the first pull even after sitting for 6-8 months at a time.
I think it will take up to a 6"branch, maybe a little smaller.

With your credentials if you walked into my office and asked for a burn permit I would put the burn permit in one hand and a box of matches in the other so fast it would make your head swim. Might as well try it, the worst they can do is tell you no?
