Are you science savvy?

Nitrogen almost threw me, but I got 13/13.

I think there is something to be learned from the male : female correct answer ratios.

I don't think it means women are ignorant or stupid. I think it says something about taking science based tests for fun. (To clarify, I am saying that my hypothesis would be that men would be more inclined to take these tests and have more of a interest in getting the answers right.)

I also thought it was interesting that they reference a female scientist or doctor (can't remember which) and the ladies got this one right more than the men did. I am sure that means something. Why did they even need to specify the gender?

Anyway, 13 out of 13. top 7 percent (of the 1006 people initially surveyed)

Nope....we're more than a couple standard deviations away from normal.

I got them all right but failed the gender. I could have checked for the answer but thought it is was cheating.

13/13. That "better than 93%" scares the berkeley out of me, because I really didn't think it was that difficult. OTOH, the 18-29 and "some college" demos make me feel a little better. A little.

no, it's not all that difficult.. but having spent all morning as "moral support" in family court today, I can see some of the people there failing badly.

What scares me about that test.. we are talking about people going online to take it. That has to be a smaller (and hopefully smarter) percentage of the population than going up to the average jo/jane on the street and asking them these questions

You're right. I forgot that Pew was comparing our scores to their results from asking the same questions in meatlife.

Awww man, 12/13. Stupid hydrogen vs. nitrogen. That was the only one I even waffled on... nitrogen was my initial response, but I psyched myself out.

Unsurprisingly, more educations = better answers, but some college and college grad were pretty close (maybe indicative of graduated being more a test of persistence than learning). Also not surprised that younger mostly did better either. I think education is better than it used to be more than people realize (at least for my generation... 20-30... I've heard some scary stuff of my friends with children in school).

I was surprised that women were out answered by men for every questions except the drug study one... maybe women handle lots of the household health decisions or since they outlive men there are more of them in and around the health care industry?
