Which sucks less?

I have head so much crap about how bad Comcast is I am not sure I want to deal with them. But they offer faster speed internet then AT&T.

I dropped U-verse last year after being an ATT customer for 13 years as they couldn't even get 1/2 the speed of Comcast in my neighborhood.

24mb vs 60mb with the 60mb being $5 cheaper.

So far....1 minor outage. Other than that fine.

But! I use my own modem. They will milk you $12 a month to "rent"

Do you want it on your back or on the side because either one is berkeleying you without a reach around.

I had ATT and it is slow, I had Comcast and it was faster but expensive, I have Fios now and it is faster than both but more expensive and the customer service has been E36 M3.

The best I ever had was the local municipality had a fiber optic cable ran right to the outside wall of my house. Cheaper and faster than anything I have had before or since and in college we had T1.

T1 is slow... 1.5mb. It only seemed fast back then.

FYI Fios is a fibre optic line ran right to your house as well.

No, it might be to my building but it isn't to my apartment, I checked when someone told me the same thing.

My parents have ATT with no issues. I have Comcast with issues. I would have ATT if my building offered it, but I wouldn't expect it to be any better--in the past, I've had Comcast with no issues in a different location.

One thing that I have noticed is that with ATT there are no major outages like with Comcast, where half the country will be out at once.

I HATE Comcast ! Get them if you want to pay $$$ and get your bill continually jacked higher and higer every 6 months after the "introductory" rates. Oh and you will have to call and waste valuable time and multiple department transfers every time you have to deal with them. I have been begging our local electric co-op to run service to our house for years. (currently comcast is my only internet option (other than dial-up) not even DSL available, due to rural living) I vote the AT&T monster for your back. Comcast = GRRRRRRRR

AT&T was always awful for me. One time, after I'd complained that my 6Mb service was running at 500Kb, they switched me from a $40/mo 6Mb promo rate to a $60/mo 3Mb non-promo rate. They refused to switch it back. At their best, their technicians would explain to me why their network was not up to the task of delivering what I'd paid for.

Run.

That said, there is no Comcast service in my area, and I still know their service sucks.

Good luck.

I've had both, Comcast is fast and a little expensive, but decent as long as you don't have to call in for anything. Comcast techs have always been fine for me. I had ridiculous issues with AT&T where they sent me to collections after I cancelled even though I didn't owe them anything, and they are trying not to maintain their copper network which means service can suck if they haven't run U-Verse to your location. The town where I live was in a legal battle with AT&T over their U-verse boxes for years, and now they don't want to put the money into it.

If I could help it I wouldn't do business with either of them, but there are no other reasonable options where I am for internet.

I've had no problems with Comcast, although they are expensive (but aren't they all.) Service has been very reliable, my download speed is around 90 mbps.

Interestingly we almost have an embarrassment of riches here in Minneapolis, when it comes to Internet access options - there's DSL through the phone company, Comcast, there's city wide Wi-Fi available, and last fall another company ran fiber down my street so that's available as well.

Well that is confusing. You said you had a house and then say you live in an apartment. Fios is a fiber optic line to your house or apartment and then wired to coaxial cable. Either way it is high speed light to the house or building and then changes to a digital signal.

Is Comcast now in cahoots with Time Warner? I switched from AT&T Uverse to TWC, about five months ago.

I was tired of paying for 15mbps, AT&T's fastest, and only getting ~6mbps, regularly. Uverse TV would frequently blackout.

Now, with TWC, I'm on the 30mbps plan, and routinely get 36mbps, or better. I've only had one problem with TV, and a receiver reboot cured it.

Um....jesus. i think i'd opt for an unlimited plan with a cell carrier and pony up for mobile modem before I'd go with either of those. Strangely, ive got brighthouse now, and while their techs are berkeleying imbeciles (this actually doesn't bother me, im smart enough to fix their E36 M3 after they leave), the service itself is solid. After years of patchy as berkeley dsl, its a welcome change.

If this gives you any perspective, when I worked as a tech at Comcast, I can't tell you how many people came back to Comcast from Uverse after switching from Comcast to Uverse because they were fed up with Comcast. I heard a lot of people complain about the service issues with Uverse and were glad to be coming back to Comcast.

Remember this, Uverse was supposed to be Fiber to the house, until AT&T found out it didn't work with well with their ancient infrastructure and figured out how to make it work on 2 pair phone wiring because it was the cheaper alternative to replacing all their old infrastructure. I only know this because my dad was a Tech at AT&T.

I believe you still can't purchase your own modem to work with Uverse, at least that's how it used be, they may do that now.

Started out with Frederick Cablevision (local cable TV company) back in early 70s. They were bought out by Adelphia who was then bought by Comcast.

In all that time we have only had a handful of outages. Usually when some drunk took out the pole on the curve down the street. When I do want to contact Comcast I just drive over to their Customer Service Center about a mile down the street and get great service.

They are a bit on the expensive side but I get great internet speed (fiber optic to drop to my house). When it gets too expensive I go out to the service center to complain and end up getting some "special package" that drops the price significantly.

I've had both in a couple different cities.

I liked the U-Verse DVR better but their speed sucked. And I lived about 60' from the ATT neighborhood node.

I recently tried to switch back to U-Verse and their sales guy lied his ass off. Promises of what's in a package.. Wasn't. It went downhill from there and I canceled inside 7 days. F them.

Comcast was always good until I canceled (to move) and they sent me to collections after I had a bill with zero balance. That experience put the FU in fun.

Lucky you have both available, you can switch back and forth or at least threaten that move and hopefully keep costs moderate.

No such thing as cheap broadband. Maybe for a promo rate but when the promo ends.. (if you can get decent speeds).. Time to change providers.

I am leaning towards Comcast due to speed. Comcast is still cheaper then WoW! that I have now even after the promo rate ends I believe.

Honestly either is only temporary until Google Fiber gets here.
