I have a 2001 Grand Marquis (appropriately named "Grandma,") with a seized 4.6.  (Yes, I pulled the serpentine belt and it still won't budge.)

Obviously, I won't be able to unbolt the torque converter to pull the engine, so my question is:

Is there enough room to pull the engine and trans together?  ...engine only, with TC attached?

...or is this a body-off investigation?

In this particular case, I'm not averse to complete butchery, so if cutting holes into the firewall/floor pan is a viable alternative, I'm all ears.

Fairly sure the front k member unbolts and there may be room to drop the powertrain out the bottom? Idk. The body isn't terribly difficult to remove if you have a lift or a dozen buddies.

Only on the 03 and newer, with the alum. x member, I think. IIRC, the 02 and earlier had a welded in steel front x-member as part of the frame.

I have not pulled either, but on the older stuff I have pulled, I usually found it easier to pull engine/trans together. Astro van guys, that don't pull from the bottom, even cut the radiator support on the Gen 1's, and bolt it back together with a fish plate afterwards.

I would recommend trying it with just the radiator pulled, and if it won't clear, cut it. But at a SWAG (sophisticated wild azz guess) I would say it clears.

I would expect the engine to clear with the converter attached but if it doesn't It'll come out far enough to access the converter bolts.
