I just bought an NA Miata, and it really needs an audio system overhaul. It has Kicker coaxials in the doors that have been hit by errant feet because I'm really a little too tall for the car. Plan is to get some Infinity or Polk Audio components for the front doors. That's simple enough. What I have questions about are headrest audio and possibly bass shakers mounted to the rear firewall.

My car didn't come equipped with the headrest speakers, so I plan on getting a set of the enclosures and buying some 2"x3" drivers from Parts Express. These are the drivers that I like. They should sound better than the stock ones, and probably better than the usual 3.5" round driver shoved into the foam.

For amplification of those rear speakers, I'm thinking about something along the lines of a pair of these Sure amplifiers or these less expensive amps.

Since the only speakers that can really put out much bass are going to be the front speakers in the doors, I want to add some bass somewhere. Due to packaging, a subwoofer mounted somewhere is completely out. A console with a sub is probably possible, but I think transducers might be the key. Parts Express has their own Dayton Audio transducers, and there are the AuraSound transducers for $15 each more. I can run these off of a standard small car audio amp.

What are your thoughts on this? For now, I'll be using the crappy Blaupunkt head unit that came with the car, but I plan on upgrading to an Alpine that can play FLAC files soon.
