I'me replacing the OEM 6 3/4" rear deck speakers in my Sentra with soemthing from the aftermarket, and have narrowed my choice down to these two:

Rockford Fosgate Prime R165X3 6-3/4" (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R165X3/Rockford-Fosgate-Prime-R165X3.html)

Kicker 41DSC674 (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_20641DS674/Kicker-41DSC674.html)

Which would you choose and why? Is there something else in the sub-$100 range that would be even better?

Thanks in advance, Jerry

I'm fairly out of the loop in car audio these days, but from my personal experience the 3 way speakers I've tried (from good brands) sound nice and clear but just get overwhelmingly tinny in the highs. I prefer a plain old 2 way if I'm going cheap. If I'm dropping decent coin, well that's a different story about component speakers.

Edit: so I choose the kickers.

With that budget, I'd probably hunt for some used Infinitys or Boston Acoustics that would normally come in in the $200-$300 range.

For the rears? I'd throw some $50 Sony GS in there. (Which honestly probably sound better than the options given anyways.)

Well,I normally don't even fit rear speakers, but if I do I want quality...

Back in the day, I was all about Boston Acoustics. I still have some of the old "Rally Series" RX line speakers installed in my Trans Am. They still sound great nearly 15 years later.

More recently, when I had my 2009 WRX, I set out to build a cheap system. I went with some of the lower line Kicker speakers, and man, was I blown away. The car ran 4 6.5's in the doors, and it sounded better than I ever thought it would. They were simple 2-way speakers, but they had clear highs and decent mid and bass for what they were. And they cranked!

If you want to go cheap, I'd highly recommend the Kicker stuff.

JBL?

of those two, i think either would be fine. RF stands behind their budget line as well as they do their elite line, and i've installed a set of the kickers that came before this new line and they worked great.
