We pay a lot in auto insurance, thanks to being the proud parent of a 18 year daughter. Our current fleet (insured through a large national large company) consists of:

1999 Mazda Miata
2004 BMW 330i
2006 Toyota 4Runner
2012 Volkswagen GTI

I work from home and we live in a pretty small town, so the annual mileage listed on all of the cars is low, super low on the Miata (3,000/year and I don't even hit that number).

What I would like to do is move the Miata on to some other type of policy, as I rarely drive it. I hope it sees a little more track duty this year, but don't necessarily care about a policy that covers track use. I really just want it off my main policy. But I don't think folks like Hagerty or Heacock will take it. It's not a show car by any stretch. Suggestions on how to lower my insurance costs?

Hagerty will insure it. I have a ‘90 insured through them, it cant be in better shape than yours.

If not Grundy.

my 2006 GTO is insured through heacock for a limited mileage policy. Brought those cost down for full coverage from over a thousand to a few hundred of dollars per year. I would give them a call.

My brother has two younger drivers and the insurance agent told him get a beater car with only liability on the policy. Put both kids on the beater with the ability to drive the good cars (2) on limited basis. They both started out driving the beater graduating to a better vehicle but the beater is still on the policy. It’s hardly driven but without it the insurance would be considerably higher.

Now I don’t know if this will work for everyone since all the drivers have good records and the agent is a lifelong friend of the family but might be worth a try.

I had my own insurance and paid for it since I got a drivers license.

I had to get my own insurance at that age and it ate me alive at $225/mo for a frikkin' Neon. And that was with a good, but short, driving record. If you can get it cheaper for her then keep her on your policy for her finance's sake!!
