BobCAD is still garbage.  Just got a new CNC Plasma at work, and the software is awful.  Thankfully Fusion360 can has a Post so it can talk to the CNC.

I teach Highschool Drafting, and have always had my Level 1's do 2D AutoCAD including Architecture, and my Level 2's and 3's use Inventor (used to be Rhino3D, then Pro/E) and then RevIt for architecture (used to be Chief Architect, then ArchiCAD).  Cool thing about the Autodesk stuff, is it is all free (students.autodesk.com).

This last year I started toying with Fusion360.  It was a bit odd at first,, but as I got the hang of it, I started falling in love with it - it is quite intuitive and logical.

I'm not fully in love with Revit yet - I don't know it well enough to make it do what I want. Advantage: there are a HUGE number of tutorials on YouTube on how to do whatever you want to do.

While I have always started with 2D AutoCAD and have always believed it was foundational (because that's how I started), come September I'm started my Level 1's with Fusion360. Reason? Most of my students are not going to become engineers or architects, but with 3D Printers becoming so CHEAP, they are more likely to own a 3D Printer.  Why not teach the kids how to use that technology??

Civil engineering is where you want to look. I'm part of a civil engineering / surveying company. They use Autocad. Draftsmen are employed with many of them. I'd look there.
