Then an almond pound cake and after that I think I might make some banana bread

Mmmmmm. Very inspiring. I've been meaning to make some corn pones in the old cast iron pan I scored off craigslist. Maybe this weekend.

My 4 yr old was interested in knowing why I was slamming the cake pans on the counter after I put the batter in them. she though it was hilarious.

Yep, nothing gives it that crispy crust deliciousness like cooking cornbread in cast iron. I usually use a skillet, but for a higher crust ratio, corn pones can't be beat.
