I could "bearly" keep myself from laughing. I like how they said they "changed the lock". That's a heck of a thing when the bears get the keys to your trash bins!
The thing to consider (and appears to be what happened) is that the person who locked it, closed and locked it, while the bear was in it!
Yeah, I'd almost certainly get mauled while trying to pet it.
I'm also guessing the bear took a nap when the dumpster was getting locked. I mean, falling asleep in the wrong place has happened to the best of us, no?

Sometimes a dumpster even
In a previous life, I was a chef in my 20s, I was helping the dishwasher clean up when I was the kitchen manager. Well, I grabbed the sloppy wet trash from the dish station and brought it out to the dumpster. This is in the Mt. Washington area of NH, there are bears.
That trash in particular is wet and heavy so I had to do a spinning shotput style launch into the dumpster. Just as I released my hold on the trash bag, having the correct trajectory and speed to solidly land in the dumpster a big black bear pokes it's head out of the dumpster.
It takes it in the face and the bag blows open. My last view of the bear before a speedy trip back into the restaurant was a surprised black bear with kitchen leavings hanging and dripping all over it's head.
If it wasn't for the adrenaline from the scare I probably would have pissed myself laughing. It was like an old Loony Tunes cartoon.
