Sounds good, I'll have to try this. I have already mandated that I will be served this at my next birthday. Although I may have to substitute Victory Storm King or Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout for the Guinness.

Did anyone watch the Simpsons episode when Lisa found out the secret ingredients to Guiness? Bog water and chocolate syrup. (-Brewmaster: "Ahk! You may know the ingredients, but you don't know the ratio!" -Lisa: "Is it 50-50?" -Brewmaster: "Aye. "

I can't believe this idea didn't come out sooner! I want to try it tomorrow.

Are there any side-effects of mixing ice cream and Guiness? Other than drunkenness and deliciousity?

I'd say to try it with Butter Pecan or Black Walnut instead.

Guinness, bitter? Umm...

It does sweeten it up. Also adds to the creamy-ness of the Guiness. It tastes like Guiness and chocolate ice cream.

Actually, the best bits are the surprise of when you get a chunk of chocolate. Chocolate and stout pair well together (although I'm usually not a fan of chocolate-stouts). Also, the last globs of ice cream that have been soaked in beer are super delicious.

guiness should never be bitter.. If it is you've just paid for a crappy pint. The stuff in the UK is sweet like mothers milk. The only place I've had it like that in the US is http://www.kildarespub.com/ <-- They had Guiness engineers come over and set up their tap system and keg storage room. The guiness is expensive. Like $7 a pint, but it's worth it.

Try it with Stone Breweries Russian Imperial Stout, if you can find it. Holy Mary Mother of God, now THAT's a drink!

Where are you buying your Guinness?

This is what your Guinness should look like:

If you're drinking stuff spelled "GUINESS" You're probably not getting the real thing.

Hehehe, fortunately it's easy for us to find Stone Brewery stuff around here. Stone is based outside of San Diego. Not quite local... but close enough to find it without too much trouble!

Hmm... I'll have to check on their Russian Imperial. How does it compare to Old Rasputin? I had a beer float a while back at a local microbrew that was done with their vanilla cream stout, with vanilla ice cream.

I figure Guinness would be better for a beer float since it's already fairly creamy and smooth.

Plus, I heart nitrogen. I don't know what the hell Shell is going on about putting it in gas. That's goofy. But it's great hooked up to a keg!

Being a huge Simpsons fan, I tried my own version of the Skittle Brau a few weeks ago. It was jelly beans plus Michelob Ultra (in the fridge for passer bys). The beer sucked up all the color and flavor of the beans and left a tasty suprise at the bottom. Even though I love Guinness, I gravitate towards the poor man's version..Yuengling Porter.

Note, 2 N's in Guinness

I have not had a "good" Guinness pint in the US ever. Believe me, I've tried. I spent some time in Galway for work, and was told it was "nearly" as good as the Dublin pubs. Whatever the reason, its like drinking chocolate milk over there. It was slightly different in London (UK does not include Ireland BTW :) ) - But absolute crap anywhere else. Except Finland, for some reason they get good pints up there.

Funny drinking story; when I was in Galway, one afternoon I started drinking Guinness. 1 punt 95 was what they cost @ the time. Wound up being a fantastic time with colleagues & we ended up closing several pubs down (I'll spare the hilarious details). The next morning I counted 24 nickles in my pocket.... :)

The closest I've found to the Guinness experience in the states are the pub draught cans of Beamish. They are very smooth & creamy, similar to a IRL pint.
