+1. But I like wine as well.

It's funny to me how some are calling craft beers "hipster beers". In my experience with hipsters, PBR is their beer of choice.

motomoron wrote: I generally keep Mexican and Asian beers on hand for utility drinking in the warmer seasons and w/ their respective cuisines year 'round. I like good beer, but detest "difficult" beer which emphasizes insane hoppiness/hipster douchebag fashion victim flavors over simple deliciousness. For example. all the beer I've had in Europe has been really good, and 0% of it has caused me to make a face when I have the first sip. My local, The Quarry House in Silver Spring MD has a massive beer menu and many rotating taps so I tend to try a lot of new things. To be honest a lot of it just runs together; brownish bitter cookie cutter beer where I'd like a glass of water to wash it down. Oh, and at punk rock shows I want 3 or 5 frosty cold bottled Budweisers. There, I said it.

I've been on both sides of it. I really WISH I could still stomach cheap beer comfortably. At a show, I use PBR to "sober up" like others use coffee. One really good IPA, and I finally "got it" (that's not being elitist, it's the only way I know to describe it.)

I made the mistake of forcing mrs. poop out of her "rolling rock/heineken" comfort zone. She made "that face" every time she'd sip any other beer...then she had "Citrus Ninja Exchange" and my wallet has been lighter ever since. It was her "gateway beer." The fruity hop character did it for her, just as a super-malt-forward IPA did it for me.

If you're interested, keep trying different stuff. If not, you're a wiser man than I for not blowing money on beer. I can't go back.

I think it depends where you're at. In CA, they seem to be all about the PBR. I moved to Columbus and they like to drink the most poorly executed local craft beer at the hippest bars.

Favorite daily brew: Labatt Blue

Favorite memory beer for special occasions: Killian's Red

What I keep in the fridge for a cheap drink: Miller Lite

What I like for a treat: a good IPA

Other favorites: Kronenberg, Stella Artois (on tap, not bottle), Red Stripe, and Michelob.

What I don't drink: Anything that is some fruity, McPorter, flavored, goth, vampire, douchebag, shocktop, juice-infused crap that is served half-carbonated with a cherry and an orange slice.

Beer is beer. Anything that isn't served under 50 degrees, is served with fruit, has an added flavor, or when a bartender thinks it tastes better in a specially-shaped glass is not beer. It may be a brewed beverage, but it is not beer any more than meade, champagne, or bread.

Beer. its what's for breakfast.

I heard PBR is falling out of popularity with the hipsters because its no longer unpopular and obscure.

hell, we drank PBR back in the '60's … it wasn't obscure then, 'course we also drank Falstaff and Schlitz …

I know that I posted that I drank Miller Lite .. and it IS my "beer" of choice, but I also like Dos Equis .. and liked it YEARS before "the most interesting man in the world" hit the airwaves LOL

Miller Lite, to me it's like the Chevy of beers and I'm a Chevy kinda guy. Also on occasion MGD, Yuengling or Corona.

Losin' my taste for beer in this cold weather tho. Might hafta switch to wine-inna-box.

Classy, huh.

I prefer Yuengling, Rolling Rock, or Dos Equis for lawnmower beer. Locally my top 3 are Highland Brewing, French Broad Brewing, and Asheville Brewing. Oskar Blues and Sierra Nevada are also in my regular rotation. Last year I started brewing my own using Mr Beer but am about to venture out to raw ingredients.

NO. You are wrong. I would have agreed with you until they gave us that Summer Shandy crap. It sold like hotcakes to the masses, despite it not knowing if it was a beer or a lemonade and half-assing both of them. Now they try to stick fruit in everything and it all sucks.

I do agree that they have some very good beers, their Octoberfest is very tasty IMHO, as is (was?) their canoe padler (a Kolsche style), but Liene's as a whole is very hit or miss.

Liene's Summer Shandy should be nuked from orbit.

That crap ruined me on Shandys in general until i happened to try a Curious Traveler, which apparently is what the Liene's is SUPPOSED to taste like.

Curious Traveler is delicious on a hot summer day. Liene's version sucks incredibly hard.

TL,DR

My new favorite cold one after work is Redds Apple Ale. My favorite relax and watch a good movie is Third Shift in a frosted mug.

Locally (Cincinnati Ohio), Mount Carmel Amber is pretty friggin good.

My go-to lawnmower/shop beer is Coors. The Original Banquet beer, not the light. Hey, if it was good enough for Burt & Jerry to drive to Texarkana, it's good enough for me.

I do love craft brews though, and what i like is mood-dependent. Stone's Ruination IPA and Russian Imperial Stout used to be favorites, but they seem to be slipping lately. Dead Guy Ale and 90 Minute IPA are always a good choice, even better if on draft.

Dos Equis Amber=Tasty. Dos Equis in green bottle=Piss.

My favorite two Leinies flavors are Vanilla Porter and the regular classic Amber. The Shandy is good on a hot day in a can only.

Saranac is turning into my favorite Shandy now.
