Okay, I concede, crazier videos exist.

Last week I hosted a little old school day at our local skatepark, and the guy who made this edit was there. Some of it was shot that day--he'd just plop down this little tripod, ride for a bit, and then move on. I have seen a lot of BMX videos, but this is probably the happiest one.

And if anyone wants to ride with us, I'm doing another day at our local park next month.

I quite like this early Danny MacAskill video. The music really sets the mood.

In reply to G_Body_Man:

Danny MacAskill does the kind of stuff on a bike that never even would have occurred to me to ask if it was possible in the first place.

And it's not technically a BMX video, but Martyn Ashton's Road Bike Party is still amazing.

By the way, I bought my latest frame set from his shop and his customer service was excellent.

Flatland never left. It just doesn't get the glory that the Boom Boom Huck Jam type stuff gets. It's all over instagram, FWIW.

OMFG that ruled. The old tricks on the retro bikes were so rad!!! (no pun)

The music, the corniness, the "heroes on bikes" angle--all fantastic. Who is the chick?

The retro bikes confused me. They seemed to almost be repop framesets with new ish. The sprockets looked to be all that tiny ish the kids are running.....

David will clarify, but oldschool BMX is now a thing and quite a few manufacturers (Haro and SE come to mind first) have put out retro bikes recently. They're almost clones of the 80's-era stuff, with a couple of modern tweaks (like threadless headsets).

I wish I had a reason to get one. I already have 5 bikes and I don't know where or when I'd use an old BMX'er. If I still auto-x'ed, I'd probably use one as a pit bike, tho.

Yeah, i knew that. Bmx planet is like crack. I was just alluding to some of the trinkets on the bikes appeared to be more modern. Im currently engineering a for my kids first bike to be something like a freestyler on tuffs. Should piss off the ex, kid has a nicer bike than her car.

Yeah, several companies have put out retro bikes lately. The (sad) truth is that the bikes we rode in the '80s are kind of tiny--and the dropouts are so, so thin.

So most/many of the retro bikes feature modern touches, like longer wheelbases, mid or Euro bottom brackets, modern brake posts, etc. But they have enough details to invoke memories. Add some Profile or Flight cranks and Tuff Wheels, and you're there.

Some part companies have gotten in on it, too. Profile recently put their original three-piece cranks back in production. (I do my shopping at Planet BMX and they stock a ton of retro stuff.)

I have a retro Skyway T/A frame upstairs. Very soon (like maybe this week) I hope to fetch the parts needed to complete: Flight cranks, etc. In fact, my graphite Tuff Wheels are sitting right here in my office. And, yes, I'm going to run 44:16 gearing.

For colors, I'm going to emulate the one that Mike Dominguez rode in like 1983. Basically, I want to build up something that would have been seen at a skatepark before dedicated freestyle bikes came out.

This frame is totally cool, too. It's amazing what the right stickers can do to make you feel like you're 12 again.

And here's the image of Dominguez on a Skyway. I just always dug the black Tuffs with blue tires.

Well, she's pretty awesome!

Huge props to Red Bull for continuing to spend money on great stuff like this.

...and again, I mourn the sale of my Skyway T/A for $100 in 1991. That haunts me about every 6 months.

You can even go back and read many of the mags from the day.

Going back through some of these I remember many pages I cut out and had on my wall (especially from Freestylin').

SE Bikes has a whole retro line. Most of them are bigger wheel size. If I can commit to riding my cruiser for a month, I'm going to get the Big Ripper. I won't buy it if it's just going to collect dust.

Eddie Fiola came ou with an updated Performer that looks pretty cool, too.

A couple of years ago, some was making an update Mongoose with the head tube gusset and hole. Can't remember who.

Greg Hill still has his GHP line of race bikes. I've seen a couple up close and are really sweet.

I have a GT Mach One frame in my garage at the moment, just like I rode as a high school freshman. I laid it next to my son's Redline Expert and the GT was shorter....... Now I know why we had laid back seatposts and long stems.
