i've been accumulating scrap in the corner of my garage. i have a pile of converters, probably 60 pounds of brass plumbing pieces, 30+ pounds of clean copper pipe, a trash can full of #2 insulated copper wire, and close to 25 pounds of clean bright copper wire(i strip all the insulation off my romex scraps while watching tv).

i usually take everything to the local guys up the street, but have a feeling i've been getting screwed. is there an online scrap buyer or otherwise a good way of finding who pays the most?

as for converters, what do you guys do with them? i have 6 or 7 right now, and i've had decent luck selling them on ebay but is there a better way? i know if the ebay buyers are making money selling them, they are not giving top dollar.

I would imagine shipping would eat up any profits for an online scrap dealer. You could call around to local dealers to see what their prices are (they probably change daily) but I'd guess it would only make a few dollars difference either way.

Find out anywhere local, call them up and ask their prices.

I ended up taking my stuff to the place all the local scrap yards go. Bout 40 minutes away but the payout is much better.

i think that's who i need to find. the big place that all the little local buyers take stuff to. like i'm sitting on a an overflowing trailer full of aluminum. i'd love to be able to get even 10 cents more per pound as sometimes i've got an entire car hauler full of clean aluminum siding, and that adds up quick. i think i'm going to ebay the converters either way, as last time i put one up it went for $115.

Clean aluminum is worth $0.35 more per pound than ones with steel/iron mixed in around here.

Here is a scrapper link

This is a scrap yard local to me and shows a pretty generic price spread. Prices change frequently and it really pays to check a variety of yards the day you make the sale.
