I am travelling to Boston from Cleveland on the 9th of April, return is the 16th, time's not an issue.

Who has the best (cheapest) airfares?

Thanks

Haven't used it yet, but was excited to try this out (think I heard about it here last time this came up): http://matrix.itasoftware.com/

I would check Orbitz and Travelocity. That would tell you what flights are available. Then go to the airlines website to check for best price for that flight number. I've heard they post the best prices on Tuesday afternoons. Seriously!

There really isn't a best answer to this. Hit up the normal sites like kayak and travelocity, but you should also go directly to Jet Blue or Southwest as well. If you really want cheap, see if their are any alternative airports in the area that are smaller. If you're lucky, an airline like Allegiant will connect the two.

Also, always google for discount codes.

yes, SWA is never on the cheap sites - you have to check them out on their own website.

If flight time really isn't an issue, you could use the Priceline "Name your own price" You'll probably get redeye flights, but it'll probably be cheaper. And, if they don't accept your offer, you can try again in 24 hours.

I've used it many times with hotels with good results. Never used it with airfare because I always traveled with my son and there wasn't a guarantee we'd sit together.

Also try Canton Akron Airport (CAK) and the airline of www.airtran.com which does direct flights to Boston

I went to spirits website. Flew from Detroit to Laguardia for $68. Couldn't touch spirit, even by bus.

^^^ As long as you're not checking bags or need a seat belt, this is a good cheap option.

I like to play 'pretend short notice vacation' with https://www.google.com/flights/.

It can compare between all of the major carriers all at once.

this is a new one from Reddit https://www.hipmunk.com/ might be worth taking a look.

cheapoair.com wasn't a bad place... but in many cases I found they could point me to a good deal (and sometimes alternate airports)... then I'd hop over to the official airline web page and end up about the same or better...

The matrix site is cool. They basically make search engines that they sell to other companies (like Orbitz, etc) and they have the raw engine available on the web. There's no "click here to buy" link, you have to find the flights and then go buy them on the airline's site, but they offer you more configurability in your search query than the other sites too.

I dunno if it'll necessarily find you a cheaper flight, but I've had it find more convenient flights, or flights that didn't show up in the other search engines.

Google bought them a few years ago, but the only difference in the site is the little "powered by Google" logo in the corner.

I usually start with www.Kayak.com and once I've got a good "base" rate, I'll try to see if I can beat it by going to Southwest, or another carrier.

Priceline sometimes has good rates, but you don't have the option to cancel, which can really screw you if something comes up.

You'll need to log in to post.
