A comment about T-Bird taillights in another thread got me thinking. We have discussed the best headlights ever made (it even made it as a topic on Jalopnik) but never taillights. I'll start with the T-Bird
And add the 65 Impala as some of my favorites.

Furai taillights, even though they're so monochromatic that they're not even US-legal:
Well its gotta be the Fiat 850 sedan
I mean just look at all the cars that stole them
I could seriously go on all day like this. The amount of megabuck cars with the lowly sedan tail lights is staggering...... And also the reason replacements for my Fiat are cost prohibitive.
I've always been partial to the full width, blacked out late 70's T/A taillights. With the Buick Grand National a close second.
Tried to hotlink a picture but my control of the googles was not up to the task from the phone.
The quad round taillights from an early second generation camaro take my vote.
It has got to be the 1958 Edsel Villager wagon tail lights. "Best" can be interpreted many ways, of course, but "most daring" would cover the Villager.

And...I don't care what anybody says:
These...
Are better than these...
Those simple little bullets got used on all sorts of cars, from the gorgeous 250GTO to Aston Martins to classic Land Rovers. I think lights are something that benefit well from standardization - they're expensive to get legal and changing them every couple of years just jacks up replacement costs and inventory. Dumb.
...while I do believe that they're best standardized, I'd be wrong if I didn't mention that a particular set of taillights are in the MoMA collection.

Imperials have also often had striking tail lights...
1955, one of which also doubled as the gas filler door:

OK then. What car? What tail lights?:
I always liked the last Gen Trans am honeycomb ones.
Honda isn't normally known for great styling, but I always thought these were great. If you look at the NSX you'll see where they came from:
Lincoln has been doing some stunning rear ends lately (except when they tryed to put a sedan rear light setup on a SUV). Too bad about the fronts.
