So I'm gearing up for a road trip, and part of that trip includes bringing bikes. I have a hitch mounted bike race, but I don't have any stabilizing straps to go with it.

I do have some narrow nylon straps, but no "hook" to go over the trunk (or in this case, the lip of the hatch).

Thinking out side of the box, and understanding that I have to find a solution for this tomorrow, what can you guys think of that will do the same? I'm not trying to buy another carrier just to cannibalize it.

This is what I'm trying to replace:

Thread the nylon straps through the opening at the front of the trunk while it is open. Tie or hook to something inside the trunk. Fill, close trunk. Cinch up straps?

Yes, grab a length of pipe, wrap it with cushion-y material so a to not dent the inside of your trunk, tie the strap around it securely, set the anchor inside the trunk, thread the strap through the gap between the trunk and the body, close trunk and pull taught. Thread remaining strap through the rack attachments, tighten and go.

Have a great trip!

If you were to want to pay money for this tech, my bike shop would happily charge you twenty bucks for the brand name. My charge, three beers, payable upon return.
