Ok, I have a strange question or two here so hang in there.
I'm a Jeeper at heart. I've had about 20 Jeep ranging from a 1946 flatfender to 2001 Grand Cherokee. I wheeled them all. Now I'm Jeepless because I want to run grease (230 mpdg [miles per diesel gallon] sure beats 14 mpg in a Jeep). But I'm being bitten by the jeep bug again. I know you could get Libertys and Grand Cherokees with the CRD, but those aren't real Jeeps.
So, here's what I'm thinking.....
Pick up a Jeep CJ-8 (Scrambler) and do a diesel swap. I could to a Cummins 4BT but I happen to have my 92 300D already converted. So I could swap in my I-5 but what about a transmission? I don't know if I could adapt it to a Jeep trans (the AW-4 auto from the 80's and 90's Cherokees is legendary!!). Anyway, is there a MB trans that could have a transfer case bolted to it? Any of you out there as strange as me and have any odd ideas?

divorced transfer case = use whatever trans you want

Yeah, I thought about that. But I don't know if I'll have the room. A 2WD trans is kinda long, even if you mount the t-case right on the output shaft it's gonna be tough to make that work within a 102" wheelbase.
Maybe a 6.5 TD and TH400 combo?

Plus, IIRC, CRDs are not grease friendly.

are we talking biodiesel or pouring straight grease down the filler neck? the informational video for the fuelmeisterII biodiesel kit shows the dude pouring the finished product into a diesel liberty. also, maybe stick in a tdi, sammi style. i dont know if there as many resources out there to be able to stick it in a jeep as there are for samurais, but if there are, it would be alot more nimble.
Yeah, the CRD can be done, but it's not very easy.
I'm not going to do a sammy because I need to take my wife and 3 kids with me wheeling, so a scrambler or FSJ (full sized Jeep) are my only real options. I've wanted a scrambler for many years so that's on top right now.
Oh, I'm talking straight veggie oil, not bio.
