E36 M3, i kinda wish i was built like that.
And yes... so hard they'd need the blueprints to put it back together.

Meh, it's cool she is on a pit crew. Tire changers are supposed to be small and fast, fuel man and jack man are supposed to be big, and tire carriers inbetween. Duke of under steer and I have crewed together. I am a jack man because im huge and he is a tire changer because he's small, we could not switch jobs and be efficient.
I did a Crossfit trial last year when I was still super fit - you go through an evaluation and they determine whether you go in the fast track or slower group. A really buff guy and I were the only ones to make it out of our group but it almost killed me. It is expensive - what I did was incorporate the things they use into my regular gym workout and saw results within a month. Gotta watch the knees though, they do a lot of squats and deadlifts.
Our culture is weird. We want and expect equality amongst all people, but yet when it happens it's considered news. It's just kinda weird.
She's cute. A little too buff for my taste. Good for her on getting a job.

Well it costs a Lot to have a Large Tire, A few Sledge Hammers, and a Pile of Rocks in an unheated building. Clearly the operating expense of a Crossfit gym exceed those of a "normal" gym with it's 30-40 $4K cardio machines, 10-15 strength machines, a Pool, Free Weight room and usually several Handball courts and a Gym. I mean obviously since my 2 or 3 local Gyms are under $60 a month and offer all of that stuff and are in safe residential/commercial area's of town with Paved Well lit parking lots and the only crossfit place is ~$125/month is in the back of a windowless Storage facility on the Shady edge of Town with a Gravel parking lot lit by the streetlight nearly a half mile away.
In reply to nocones: Yeah, the one here was the same. No change room, no showers and a single bathroom. I've got a Plus membership at the Y which includes steam room, towels, shampoo and all that stuff, with pool, squash courts, nautilus machines and all the classes I want from yoga to boot camp to step classes to core... all for $70/mth.

I've got everything but the shampoo, steam and the pool here for $30 down, $10/mo... no commitments.
I can lift, do a little cardio, take a shower and leave. For about $0.35/day. I just don't get the $150 Crossfit stuff unless I get a personal trainer who monitors everything for me and possibly gives massages also.

It's news because it's a long way from actually happening with any kind of consistency. I think we're closer than at any time in history, but that's kinda damning by faint praise.

Nah baby, it's cool. Tell me how you really feel.

Muscles yes, joints no.
I've never hurt my knee doing either, even after I hurt my knee at work.
Why two of the big three lifts that anyone should be doing get that is beyond me.

I think it is a news story because factually (and generally) speaking, women are smaller and not as strong or fast as men, and this is an occupation that requires much more strength, speed, and stamina than the average male athlete has.

My wife would.
Muscles: Cool. Tattoos: Cool. Kind of a badass: berkeley yeah, I'm in.
Big bulgy veins and a hairy chest? I can't do it.

Wait... what? Did you just compare changing a tire 5 or 6 times on Sunday to an Iron Man decathlon?
Every driver in the field will require more stamina than the tire persons (see, I didn't say tire guy). None of them will be swimming 2 miles, running 26.2 and then biking 100.

it's not just about the few seconds of hard work here and there that they show on tv... the NASCAR crews don't lounge around in comfy chairs in an air conditioned garage between pit stops like the F1 boys do... they stand around in the hot sun all day in a crowded pit on either pavement or concrete on a 95 degree day in a fire suit and helmet, ready to jump over the wall on a moment's notice to try to take off and replace 5 lug nuts in a few seconds and also be prepared to fix any damage to the car as quickly and efficiently as possible and then running around to the other side to do it all over again, while avoiding the other 3400 pound cars that are flying past them just a few feet away...
Not anything new...

I didn't mention a decathlon at all. But now that you did, I would bet that most tire persons could do one better than the average.

Wait til you get older, knees will betray you. I wish you could swap all the bum parts out, just like bushings and ball joints.
I don't want to talk about knees.
If this girl can do the job (and it looks like she can), good on her.
My local gym is $10 a month. I can do squats and deads by myself. It is the dynamic Olympic moves that I want to learn but am afraid to do on my own.
I applaud X-Mas the opportunity. We've all had cranky coworkers, someone trying to trip you up or submarine you.
I believe she'll do just fine.

You said athletes. I naturally took it to the furthest extreme I could think of on short notice.

I don't have too. All the joys of old people knees at the ripe old age of 26.
