I bought a mini freezer for cheap to get by until I find a deal on a bigger unit. The issue I have is it's a 250v two prong europlug. My garage has 240v so I was going to wire it in there, but I don't really want to cut the cord if I'm going to resell it. Any American solutions on how to use this?
Pull the strain relief panel off the back where the cord disapears into the unit. You'll almost certainly find that the cord goes into a J-box where it is wired to the other wires inside. It might be on screw binding posts or just wire nuts/crimps, but you can remove the pigtail and go buy/make a proper pigtail for your outlet.
There is a whole row of this in the appliance department. Since outlet protocols changed a dozen times over the years, most appliances are sold without a cord. You buy the pigtail that is appropriate for your outlet.
I'll also add.... unless you're planning on reselling it in Europe, I wouldn't worry about cutting the cord to install the right plug.
Thank you!!!! Already have a spare cord like that, but didn't think about changing it at the unit. Really appreciate the help!
Make sure the unit itself is rated to run at 60hz.
Are you sure the freezer isn't a dual voltage unit already? Is it labeled 250V-50Hz or something like 100-240V 50-60 Hz? I've seen other appliances that work on either, but can't say I've ever looked at a freezer specifically.

Also things I didn't consider. Probably should have looked into this a little more before purchasing. Tag says 50hz. But, Google says that most motors run fine on 60hz. As long as it doesn't catch on fire I don't really care. Only paid 40$
