I am going to be buying a rear axle on Sunday, and I am wondering if I am paying too much...I don't think so, but I am beginning to exhibit signs of Cognitive Dissonance (buyers remorse)
is 200 bucks too much for a Mustang 7.5 axle with Trak lok, 3.27's, stock axles with 5 lug, with rotors, calipers, and E-brake cables.
oh, and a stock GT rear anti roll bar.
Yes, and if the seller dissagrees tell him I said so and show him this thread.
I don't think so. What's it for?

I paid over $300 just for a sure-grip rear end for my truck, anti-roll bar etc was extra, extra, extra...
I am buying it primarily for the trak lok dif, the 5 lug swap is an added benefit, but now I have to swap the fronts.
It will be used for my autocross Mustang project. I think the biggest problem is that I am buying it right now to sit around the garage for a few months! I hate doing that.

Why choose a 7.5 over an 8.8?
7.5 is lighter, I won't be putting down enough power to warrant a 8.8, and since the 7.5 was shared with the Ranger, the gear ratios actually come alot lower. I can get some pretty cheap 4.10s for a 7.5
if you were closer i'd sell you an 8.8 disc brake 5 lug(open diff afaik though) fox body rear with the entire front 5 lug conversion k member included to go with for that price.

I have paid $200 for a 7.5" Camaro rear end with a 3.23 posi and $20 for a 12 bolt Truck 3.73 rear end. It all depends. If the gears and bearings and axles are good, and you need it for something (wouldn't have rather had a 8.8 or 9") then it sounds fine.

Seriously? I would take that deal too if you don't mind. I won't be able to get anywhere near there until December at least, but I do need the front K with 5 lugs, and my dad needs an 8.8!

my$.02 you could have done better, but your not getting ripped off either.
I agree with HappyAndy. If it was me, I'd try to get the price down to $150.
I usually base prices on do I need it, can I afford it and how long have I looked for it. If I need it bad, the price goes up. If I have been looking for it for a while, the price goes up. If I can't afford it, then it doesn't really matter. There is always someone that is going to get a better deal. Beating your head against the wall over it is a waste of time. I paid $300 for a VW long block one time, and two weeks later I picked up a free complete one including tins off Freecycle. It's the luck of the draw, and some times your the bug, some times your the windshield. Don't sweat it. BTW my last rear end I picked up free with 4.10s and a posi. Too bad it's a GM for a Chevelle or I would give it to ya.
I'm looking for that exact axle but with 4 lug, $200 would not keep me awake at night.
Dan
well, you can have my 4 lug unit...but it has drums and no trak lok!
Posi is easy to come by, but traveling to Ga. to get it?

I gotta say overpriced since I can get the 8.8 with same options for that price. I know you have your reasons for wanting the 7.5 and that's cool but it doesn't change the fact that the 7.5 is less desirable and therefore should be cheaper than the 8.8

mine is actually in Michigan...not much better, I know, but you can have it if you find yourself in Kalamazoo.
If I bought that 128, Michigan is on the way.
also, if you can hold out until next years challenge, I can transport it down to my house, and you can pick it up then. I can even give you a warm meal and a place to crash for the night.

the 7.5 isn't necessarily less desirable. There are alot of off roaders that use them in bronco's, rangers, and the like. It is actually a pretty strong diff.
I am going to check it out in about and hour, and if the bearings are good, I am bringing the sucker home.
I think I might be working a deal for a set of four rims with some 50% AVON slicks on them and getting the whole kit for a discounted price.
The only other ones I can find on e-bay, c-list etc, are either JUST the axle (none of the 5 lug stuff), don't have trak lok, more expensive, or just too far away for freight shipping.
a new trak lok diff is more than $245 anyway, so if the diff has any life left in it at all, it is worth it (to me).
there, I feel better. Thanks guys for helping me spend money on my project.

Just got back from buying it. It came with a TON of extras, so I am pretty happy. now that I have one, I am sure there will be one up on E-bay that sells for 20 dollars. LOL. it always happens like that.
I just got back from getting the rest of the stuff included. In the end, I got the axle, discs, calipers, pads, e-brake hardware, a GT rear swaybar, 4 16X7.5 stock rims with Avon DOT slick TYRES on them for 275. Not too shabby.
Did you travel to England to get those "tyres"?
