So we just bought a new house and on the top of my wife's to-do list is to get cable TV. Personally I believe there are plenty of things available to keep me entertained that I could live without TV. Unfortunately that's not going to fly. Normally we just purchase the cheapest cable/internet option available with a DVR and we're good to go.
The wildcard with this equation is we now have kinda-free internet. We were living with the inlaws and while we did that we paid all the bills. So our name is on their cable bill and as such we have the login information for the free wifi in the park behind our house. Honestly the connection works pretty damn well! 20 mbps which is better than the 10 we used to pay for at the old place.
Back to the cable TV....The admiral wishes to watch Bravo/ESPN/MTV/ the major networks. A DVR is also necessary. We bought an HD Homerun Prime but never got it to work very well. Any suggestions on how to get cable tv for cheap without having to bundle with some internet package?
Dish Network/Direct TV/whatever other dish packages are out there seem to have standalone tv packages with numerous options. I would even check with Comcast/Time Warner/whomever cable providers are in your area and see if they have cable only available. They might have it and just not advertise it.

Speaking of...
These 2 boxes are on the back of the house. Is this where the cable is coming in? The weren't too concerned about those extra plugs...
On the side we have another box for verizon fios.
Get a good internet connection and Sling TV $20 per month and it has most of what you want. https://www.sling.com/

Define "good internet connection".
So far it looks like dish/directtv are the way to go. Unfortunately Sling doesn't have Bravo which will likely not fly with my wife.
20mb will be plenty. 10 would probably work.
Sling and then the Bravo App on an Xbox 1?
Also most of the major providers have live streaming to different devices. Put an outdoor wifi receiver to pick the signal and then a repeater inside your house and don't pay a dime for the service.
You should know that in addition to cable TV, there are a large number of alternatives. In comparison with cable TV they are much more profitable for many conditions
We went with Hulu + Live and have been pretty happy. Has the ESPNs and Fox Sports but no BBC America. Quality is good with very little buffering even with two streams going at the same time.

Same here, Hulu+ Live. I can watch all the Thunder games, F1, and Ok State football. We do have HBO for a few shows like CYE. But we don't really watch it much outside of those things.
Pluto TV has a lot of FREE stations .......
and even a car channel......
