My days of car topping may be over, though. I injured both shoulders, and I now have a Hobie Pro Angler, so I'll probably be using a trailer unless I want to drive on the beach.
I'm going to look into the Thule bar extenders first, though.

what is the drivetrain in this thing? it looks like a V4? maybe Saab Sonett stuff?
In reply to edizzle89:
Don't forget the SAAB engine is actually the Ford Tanus V4 that came in the Tanus, Capri, Transit etc. There are a lot more of them the other side of the pond than here. It's basically a Cologne V6 with two cylinders lopped off. Actually the Cologne V6 is more like a Tanus V4 with a couple of cylinders glued on the end as I think the V4 came first, someone else will have to confirm that though.

Yep. V4 first in 1950, with a balance shaft in the crankcase, which is why the V6s have such weird shaped crackcases, there's a big bulge on the side for the shaft that isn't there anymore.

TRACTION? NYET! REAR TIRE IS FINE. IF KUBELWAGEN OF FASCIST WEHRMACHT IS MAKING IT TO GATES OF MOSCOW IN GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR, MOST GLORIOUS BUGGY IS CROSSING MUD OF CRIMEA WITH EASE.
SEAT OF TANK OF PETROL IS ONLY PROBLEM IF GETTING SHOT. ONLY YANKEE CAPITALIST GI JOE NEED SEAT OF FIA CERTIFYING AND FUEL CELL OF HICK NASCAR.
