I don't know where this is, but I am glad it is nowhere near me cause I will need a new project in the foreseeable future.

Top fuel headers are supposed to be good for several hundred pounds of downforce.

Like 8 tiny jet engines.

Edit: 800# of downforce.

The header position actually helps date the car. The theory used to be to point the zoomies at the tires to blow the smoke off of them. Then someone (Don Garlits?) pointed them up, and the added downforce made for more traction.

Back when people thought surplus Allison V12 engines might make good drag racing engines. They make lots of power, right? That should automatically mean good acceleration, right?

NHRA recently announced that the angle of the headers on Funny Cars would become standardized starting with the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals, outside of Denver, Colorado. This process of angling the headers on Funny Car engines has done more to advance the performance of the class than any other performance process.

NHRA’s tech department determined the process needed limits.

In a memo issued to teams on July 12, NHRA’s tech department said, "Effective immediately the minimum header angle will be 32 degrees.

i.e.: teams were tuning downforce w/ header outlet angle w/ multiple sets of headers per track conditions.

First - no hotlink foul

Second - "This process of angling the headers on Funny Car engines has done more to advance the performance of the class than any other performance process." I call shenanigans...

And this could be settled with 4 passes.

Old header old tire
new header new tire

Old header new tire
New header old tire

The last two would settle it and the first two would be controls. You could do multiple runs with each and run statistical analysis for confirmation and minimize other variables.

A carb'd 426 will not make enough power to break your bank. And that looks like a 392.
