That is a GG1/. Designed by Raymond Loewy. I've ridden in one. Noisy and hot, it was a blast to be in the cab. The only crash of a GG1 happened in 1051 when the engine had a brake failure and it crashed through the buffer at the end of the tracks at Union Station. The engine went into the lobby and fell through the floor. No wonder since a GG1 weighs 447000 pounds! Ever watch Whale Wars? The horns on the Japanese whaling ships is kind of like what the GG1 horns sounded like.
Loewy also was involved in the 4th generation design of the Studebaker Starlight body which the Museum of Modern Art called a work of art. He is also know as the designer of the Avanti.
