Cancer sucks

That's good news Alfa.

I got the latest results from my urologist this morning. PSA is below detection one year after surgery.

Good to hear it, guys! Logan is officially in remission, they removed his chemo port last week. He'll be on pills pretty much forever, it gave him an adrenal deficiency..but it's better than (spit) cancer.

And his hair's coming back. He's pretty stoked.

Father in law is battling round 2 right now. Beat Lung / Brain cancer 18-24 months ago, now is battling with a spot on his adrenalin gland. This round isn't going very well. He was just admitted to the hospital today with severe dehydration (from the chemo and meds). The only good news is that the cancer seems to be responding.

Not to turn this to a (potentially) controversial subject, but if they're having trouble keeping stuff down, often times someone named Mary Jane can help with that.

Not controversial to me at all. Wasn't an option for us, but for an adult, it's a different matter entirely. The subject hardly ever came up at chemo, his infusion was at a children's hospital. Heard more people talking about it at radiation (very quietly, but usually in approval).

He wants to eat, I guess that is a good sign.

Sometimes gains are great, sometimes, they are baby steps. There's a reason it's called a GOOD sign.

I have to admit..they prescribed about 4 or 5 different anti-nausea drugs, and it was such a wormhole at the time that I can't recall whether they did or not.

I keep hearing that it's not just the nausea, it's that food doesn't "taste the same" anymore. I know that a lot of the time, Lo would see a picture of something on a box or can, ask us to make it, and then eat two bites & discard it.

Will do! But..y'all ought to know..among us ig'rant Southern Folks.."Georgia Peach" is almost universally used to refer to a pretty female of reproductive age, rather than a male..

We still use "peachfuzz" to refer to an adolescent male's new chin whiskers, tho.

Got the quoted section in a chain email today. Deleted the email, because it was a chain, but felt bad not sending it on somehow. A little bit of background: My grandmother, in her mid-late 80's, has lung cancer--she had noticed she was short of breath after yoga and after going out shopping, and realized something was wrong. She just finished chemo a while back, and while it didn't shrink the tumor, the tumor didn't get any larger either. She said she's not doing chemo again, it just isn't worth it.

My dad sent the chain email on, along with his line:

Hey guys, this is a chain email. But there isn't a night that goes by that I don't ask God to enlighten me with a cure for lung cancer or a food to stop it in its tracks. Maybe he'll enlighten one of you guys. Why not? Love Dad

Cancer is a strange cell. You can go along for years in remission and then one day it pops its head up again. If you ever have it you will never be free of it. Pray for the day there will be a permanent cure. A small request.....Just one line Dear God, I pray that You will guide someone to find a cure for cancer in 2012 . Amen

Mom got diagnosed again today, 4th time around for her.

I'm going to the urologist later this week. PSA jumped up from 2 a year ago to 5, so we'll go see what the doctor has to say. Hopefully, it's just a rogue reading but if it's not then we caught it early. Go see the doctor regularly guys.

I beat it back in my teens. Make a long story short I went in for surgery knowing what they were going to remove, The only real question was would I have a leg when I woke up. And had it spread. Well I did have my leg when i work up and it was contained just to the area of he bone growth. I get checked every year from stem to stern as a precaution. As any survivor will tell you every sunrise is a god send and every sun set is a blessing.

You probably already know, but Marinol is synthetic pot (or THC)

PSA results should be available soon after drawing the blood.

If your results remain high, increase etc., the Dr may advise a prostate biopsy. It will take a week or so to get biopsy results back.

I just did the daily draining of the fluid around Sue's lungs. Took out 1.8 liters of fluid from the right side tonight. do the left side tomorrow night, we usually get about .5 liter from that side. Get results from the 4th round of chemo next Monday. Hopefully we will be ready for the bone marrow transplant soon.
