A 1974 Alfa Romeo Alfetta saloon, (that's the smaller/prettier early body style). Dude is selling it for $500. I went and looked at it on Friday, and it's a bit of brake work and a tune-up away from daily driver material.
Buuut, I'd barely have the room to park it, let alone a garage to work in.
Like this, only silver, and tattier:
Not sure where I'm going with this, just wanted to vent.

Is tattier better or worse?

Better. Tatty = cheap . Maybe 'scruffy' is more appropriate.
I need another car like I need another hole in the head..... where is it?
Tatty: Australian for scruffy.
C'mon..$500? Isn't Western OZ pretty dry? There shouldn't be much rust, even on an Alfa!
Doo Eeet. (Seppo for do it.)
And you didnt buy it already why? lol

Hah, I didn't know 'tatty' was a regional term
I'd have to park it on the street, which is asking for trouble in my area. Still might, though. If it isn't already gone.
@FGC, the irony of that is, no one here actually drinks Fosters. We have our own, (equally terrible) cheap swill...but it's not Fosters
What do the people of Oz drink on a tight budget? Just curious. Friends wife talks about bundy rum?

Bundy (Bundaberg) and coke is popular. We by it in cans, pre-mixed. Likewise, Jack and Coke.
The go-to cheap beer is typically Emu Export, from the Eastern States.
^This is also trendy amongst the "hipster" set, in the same way PBR is in the 'States.
A much more palatable, (slightly more expensive) beer is Coopers, brewed in Tasmania. They do a totally decent pale ale.

didn't you already have an Alfa? If that one didn't put you off this one, there's really no hope. Just give in to fate and go buy it.

I suspect that failing to buy a $500 Alfa that is only a few turns of a wrench away from being road-worthy is a surefire way to ensure that you will never, ever, find something cool and cheap again. It will be "your story" that you tell to anyone who will listen, over and over, and soon people will stop coming up to you to talk, furthering your despair and spiral towards oblivion.
I may have got that wrong though. Maybe that's what happens IF you buy a $500 Alfa . . .

No Fosters but you have hipsters? That sucks.
Buy it. What's the worst that can happen in the short term? You decide that it was a bad idea and you sell it for $400? I'd take that chance.

I assume you haven't driven it yet?
My concern would be that the "tune up" might involve machining work. That said, IIRC the Alfa twin cam isn't that hard to work on. Been a while since I had one of those.
If it's not rusted to Flintstone proportions (early Alfettas are known for that) and you can get the parts, why are you waiting?
