Is it possible to chemically dissect what is in a bottle of car polish? my FIL and i have a few bottles of stuff he got at a car show. its AWESOME. chrome, paint, plastic, glass, doesn't matter, it'll shine em all. trouble is, the company is out of business. we got a hold of the guy who owned the company, he said the formula is proprietary, and isn't for sale. i don't want to sell it, i want to buy it, or make it.

is this possible?

My buddy is a chemist at a big wax company founded in Chicago - Wurtle Tax.

He can do it but might end up with them owning the information?

Unless you can find a friend of a friend, it'll be really expensive to do. You might just try searching for alternatives for the brand. Chances are, if it's that good and they went out of business, their fans would have found an alternative. (Not that you haven't already).

Or find some of the detailing forums and ask around?

This wouldn't be Red Dot, would it?

Possible, yes, affordable, no. Someone with a degree in chemistry could give you the details.

Is it worth it? There are so many excellent waxes and sealants these days that are readily available, I don't know that I'd bother trying to chase down the formula of one that's out of production.
