Career advice?

1/2"? By Atlanta terms, that's catastrophic.

We shut down the city if there is half a snowflake.

Depends on where in Ohio you are, I think. My mom's family is in Cleveland. Yuck.

I'd move on the job if I were relatively sure about the job security for a year or two or long enough to build up some solid local contacts. I think the economy thing is highly location/industry/profession dependent. I can't really speak to selling car parts, but I do get the impression it's increasingly important to have solid contacts. I don't know many people having luck finding jobs by applying to public postings right now.

I can assure you that some of your loyal customers will follow you to the new place of employment.

If the salary will cover what you both make now, I'd say do it. But also be prepared for your gf to be unemployed a while. I'm not saying she will, but be prepared, just in case. Keep in mind any differences in cost of living, but Atown has to be on par with most other urban areas except NYC, LA, etc.

Life really is too short.

A-men. Moving for work gets a lot more annoying/stressful the older you get. My wife and me don't have kids, which makes things easier but you tend to accumulate more stuff and TBH moving around every few years gets old fairly quickly.

This is true. Although the salary/benefits were very good, working conditions at my last place were so horrible that those of us who were laid off were the happy ones. There were even a not-insubstantial number of employees who asked management why the company didn't ask for volunteers.
