You should probably ask me, since it was my story.
The NTSB report had the tail number and serial number of my friend's aircraft, but it was most assuredly not in the accident. I don't know how it ended up there or exactly how my friend got it fixed.
I'm not that shocked. We are talking about at least one if not more government bureaucracies. (No offense intended.)
