Hey, I'm supportive even if you decided to go farther. Further? Farther? Whichever one it is, I'm ready for it.

I too wish the current crop of S14 owners weren't all like this guy. I'd love to have one, but the drift tax is real.
I haven't said or done anything on this lately, but I just checked NextDoor this morning and it looks like "Justin" found the post I'd written back when he first started. He wrote a long, whiny reply about how it was his right to drive around with a loud exhaust, how we don't appreciate him, blah blah blah.
The replies to his rant....were not kind.
One guy wrote:

There is a noise ordinance, meaning that you're breaking the law when doing your childish burnouts that late. GROW UP you narcissistic baby!!"
And another:
"Look dipE36 M3 no cares about that. I’ve had numerous 5.0 mustangs it not about being loud it’s about doing burnouts on the streets moron. As a matter of fact there is highly modified mustang down the street not once does he come screaming down the road or bothering anyone. Especially all hours of the night, we did it the right way and went to track where it belongs. I could care less he loves his car but at 10 pm at night is not the time. Have respect for you neighborhood."
In reply to volvoclearinghouse :
That is the time he should have read it and not replied.... Good times.
Have the burnouts ceased?
Oh Justin...
I just discovered that we have one in town as well. White 240SX missing the left front fender. I got to watch him drift around a mail truck while exiting the high school today while some freshman girls were walking in the crosswalk about 10-15ft from him. Berkleytard...
It could be worse, though. I was mowing the lawn last week and some miscreant on a dual sport came blasting by me and roosted me. Then he turned around, parked his bike in my garage and destroyed the first floor bathroom .
On the plus side, the same day he got a mail-order Major Performance Award for speeding in a construction zone. In the picture that the PD mailed, it looks like he's bitching about how stupid speed limits are, as his dad tells him he should slow down since the local news has been talking about all the accidents in this area. Damn kids...
In reply to XLR99 :
Can we just call every dumbass drifto-driving F&F wannabe kid "Justin" from now on?
In reply to Hoondavan :
Pretty much have stopped. He still drives by twice a day, and his exhaust is still stupidly loud. Now, to put this in perspective, we live in a pretty rural area. We have diesel trucks, farm equipment, and the usual assortment of bro-dozers driving by all the time. Plus more than a few other hotted-up cars (including mine). Justin's S14 is EXCEPTIONALLY loud. As I told Mrs. VCH last night, I don't think it's possible that the engine itself is that loud. He must have some sort of an amplifier hooked up to the exhaust!

I think it is safe to say most of us would appreciate a link to that online discussion.

Exactly
I'd prefer not to, simply because it's somewhat neighborhood-specific and people are a bit more open about who they are and where they live and stuff.
Still, it looks like we may have turned a corner. Justin seems a bit more apologetic today:
"I wasn’t driving the car and I own a Kia Forte. I’m sure you don’t know that’s a front wheel drive car meaning only the front wheels have power and they can’t do burnouts. I can come to an understanding with everyone else except Kim. You just don’t know who Your talking to and have no respect and have no idea what anyone else goes through in life didn’t anyone teach you that. I could gladly drive my friends Nissan around again much later unless you all wanna be cool about this. What the guy should’ve done is come out and say “hey, look it’s late could you guys just go home and not be out so late because my kids are sleeping and we could’ve been like yes sorry for the problems and would’ve be out late. We aren’t mean people and we understand life and have hearts so just to clear all this up and have no more problems we won’t be out so late with our loud cars."
And I replied:
"Justin, Thank you (and your buddy who has the Nissan) for agreeing not to be out so late making noise, and for stopping the burnouts and other stuff. That's all we want, that's all we were asking. Tempers flared because people get pissed off being woken up, having to deal with their kids waking up (I have two myself, both young, as apparently do you) and wondering who is treating the public roads like a race track. The type of car is completely irrelevant- I don't care if it's a Mustang, an S14 (That's Justin's friend's Nissan), or what. I've been working on all types of cars for longer than you've been alive. I have a folder full of speeding tickets and accidents to prove that in my younger days, I was no saint. I take it to the track, now. Yes, it's far away, and yes, that's a pain, and yes, I wish there were someplace closer by, but that's the way it is.
One other thing- we live in a pretty rural area. We have diesel trucks, farm equipment, and all sorts of pickups driving by all the time. And there are more than a few other folks who have souped up cars that drive around. That Nissan is BY FAR the loudest vehicle that drives by - it's always apparent when it's _that_ car (even my wife can tell, and she's not into cars that much). Loud does not equal power. Putting aside the fact that an overly loud exhaust is illegal (which I'm sure the kind folks at the State Police Barracks down on 140 could tell you), it's simply not necessary. If you want it loud for loud's sake, put a cut-out on it so you can muffle the engine while driving around normally. Save the noise for the track. "
So...perhaps some resolution?
In reply to volvoclearinghouse :
Sure sounds like he has heard the message and maybe even taken it to heart. IMO that's about as good as its going to get with him. Hopefully the problem has cleared up!
In reply to java230 :
Seems like it. This morning Justin wrote:
"Okay so we’re all good here. We are sorry and will try to keep the car quite so late (I’m speaking for my friend) and yes we both work at Monroe that is my shop that I run. As far as the mustangs go, they are still crap and just for E36 M3s and giggles it’s a full 2000$ exhaust they are called IRS blast pipes and can’t really fix it. So it’s not a cut off, also I’m not sure about that 500$ price is alittle low but it’s whatever. We’re all happy here now let’s just get along and if you have anymore complaints come to us personally so we can work something out and come to an agreement we are nice people. We’re not out to piss people off we’re just trying to have a good time in our young age."
So, somehow, using the internets and social media, we were able to collectively identify a problem, address it, engage all parties, and come to a resolution. Is that the first time that's ever happened in history?
In reply to volvoclearinghouse :
Sure seems like that is the first time ever LOL. I just see people yell each other on neighborhood groups usually.
But "blast pipes" ouch .....
In reply to java230 :
Yeah. OMG.
BTW, from the ISR Website...
"** All ISR Performance Products are Designed for Off Road Use Only **"
So the kid works at a muffler shop and still goes out and spends Challenge money on a freaking exhaust system???
Edit: Also, well done VCH!
In reply to volvoclearinghouse :
Well done!
Who knows, you may have created a new friend that you can mentor into being less of an asshat!
In reply to Furious_E :
When I was young and dumb, I, too, used to believe that glory lived within the pages of the auto performance parts catalogue. And that money meant speed. And that noise meant power. It took me emptying my wallet on a car more than a couple of times to realize that this was not the route to happiness. I don't plan any further interaction with this kid, but hopefully he'll have the same epiphany someday...
I love a happy ending! Everyone involved, even including our new friend Justin, deserve to be proud of how this worked out.
I can't resist posting this, because....well, Justin....
"I didn’t defend reckless driving but that’s what we like and who we are you don’t like it to bad my man. Also this is amusing and I may be immature but I’m an 18 year old father who has his life together more then most adults. Sooooo in conclusion mustangs are junk and yeah that’s it (unless it’s a fox body because they can drift) thank you for everyone who was cool about this. Sorry for the loud cars. If you ever have a complaints come to my shop Monro on Baltimore Blvd and we can talk about it."
In reply to volvoclearinghouse :
Oh, man. The cringe. I wonder if he’ll look back on that with regret in 10 years.
In reply to dculberson :
I'm just glad social media wasn't really a thing when i was that age. The kids these days...I really do feel bad for them. They'll be so berkeleyed up in 10 years society as we know it will cease to function. Hopefully by then I'll be able to afford an island with a 2 or 3 mile road course on it.
There are so many things in here to shake your head at.
"I’m sure you don’t know that’s a front wheel drive car meaning only the front wheels have power and they can’t do burnouts"
... Huh. News to me.
I also immediately judge people who put down cars like he does with the Mustang. Why bring up Mustangs?
In reply to mtn :
Some context would help. Another guy wrote "Look dipE36 M3 no cares about that. I’ve had numerous 5.0 mustangs it not about being loud it’s about doing burnouts on the streets moron. Really, it doesn't matter what kind of car it is, at all. Justin and this other guy kindof got into a pissing match over their cars, which frankly no one else cares about.
