I used to despise these when I was younger. Now I own one. 
I never liked these before, and now would love to have one.

When I was a kid there were multiple cars that I thought were kinda cool but would have been embarrassed for my friends to see me in.
I have always had a thing for station wagons since I was really young. One of my first/favorite Matchbox cars was a Mercury Cougar Villager - which was a rare car when new and exceptionally rare now.
Cars that grew on me - the Lotus Europa is the first that comes to mind.

I was still in HS when these came out, thought wtf too berkeleying squared off. They grew on me over the years though and wouldn't mind owning one now, SWB step side preferably. The '67-'72s seem too overdone just like the old F-100 craze. Different is good.
Watched the '14 Silverado/ Sierra reveal live online and thought the same, too berkeleying square... again. What the berkeley you thinkin' GM. Despite all the square criticism it does harken back to the '73 design, but again they grew on me and bought a '14 Silverado LTZ. They look every bit of normal now but since went GMT700 in '16, that's another grow on ya exercise there too.
It prolly won't end.

Really, anything 80s. Now I kinda dig the square styling in comparison to the modern trend of designs that look like a joint venture between Ray Charles and Pablo Picasso. Also 4th gen F-bodies. Now I look at them and feel that I could get over the styling secondary to the fun factor.

I've heard its Ford Cortina MkII components. I had a rear axle from one in my Locost it looked like a Cortina one (Hyundai earlier built Cortinas under license).
Impossible to find one for sale these days. They seem to go straight from final owner to scrapyard. I'd love one too.

Strong possibility. My understanding is the Stellar was Cortina and the Pony was Escort. But I'm a casual observer and have never owned one.

Yeah, the 959 looks like a design study for the 993. The general elements are there, but the details don't seem as well worked out.

Those were a pretty decent, gutless cheap little car. They worked quite well for the dollars required.
Certainly orders of magnitude better than the Dacia, Lada and Skoda competitors we got here around the same time.
