Hi all,
I'm working on attending the Rolex 24 next month. Originally I was going to fly solo, but now I'm looking at bringing my 10 year old son with me.
On the heels of Christmas, I need to do the trip on a budget. Avelo airlines has just added service from CT to Daytona for incredibly low fares, and it appears we can get a deal on a rental car.
Hotels in the immediate area are fairly costly, but I spotted Carters and it appears to be a great spot to lay your head that isn't far away and is very budget friendly. Anybody on here have experience with them?
Thank you!
I looked and only saw a carters in Edgewater. Its a pretty nice area. Not as methy as a lot of areas closer to daytona

I failed to remember that Fl can get pretty methy in spots. I appreciate the reminder as while I like to save where I can, I'm not looking for sketchy.

Why not car camping? Save money? Create an experience?
I don't know the motel but looking it on the map I see you are just a few miles north of the Boston Whaler factory. Also near the Ponce Inlet and lighthouse
Car camping can be pretty extreme for someone flying in. I've been to many 24s where the nights were very close to freezing.
Yeah under different circumstances I might consider car camping, but not when we are there 4 days and flying out. I have a promising lead in a VRBO in Ormand Beach that looks fantastic for our needs. May go that route.

I stayed at the Sunset Inn Motel back in 2023 which was basically the cheapest place we could find last minute at about $135/night. It was a little sketchy - when we rolled in late Wednesday night, they were shooing homeless people out of the parking lot and it was the type of place that you weren't allowed to enter the lobby. That said, we didn't bring home bedbugs, didn't get murder-raped, and neither the car nor its contents were stolen. There's a Publix down the road from the motel that we used to stock up on food and stuff so we didn't have to buy track food.
Crisis averted; while it's about 30 min from the track, I got a ridiculous deal on a 3 night stay at Home2Suites in Sanford combined with a "full size" rental car. The plus side to the Sanford location is that we appear to be about 45 minutes down to Kennedy Space Center where we will spend the day on Friday.
I am a Hilton Honors member and we stay in H2S frequently and we are yet to have a bad experience. While I'm all about value, I don't need cheap. I got the entire package, king suite (their rooms are huge) with the car for $517 (3 days/nights). I can live with that. Thanks for the help!
