Exactly, what I want to see is a plot of murder rates vs. severity of gun laws, and then a plot of murder rates vs. percentage of local economy derived from illegal drug trade. I am willing to bet only one of those will give you an obvious trend line.

Jamaica has the worst of both worlds. Very large drug trade from domestic production of ganga, transshipment of cocaine, large gang activity with government protection, guns freely available to the gangs, but the general population will go to jail for possession of a single bullet. Trinidad is considerably better, but still tough.

Summer time, crime rate goes up. Summer time, ice cream sales go up. Ice cream causes crime!
