Amusing, but nonsense!
It remains one of the most popular movies of all time.

It was also a big hit in Asia.
A theater owner in Seoul thought he'd be clever and cram more showings in day by cutting out all the musical numbers.
Jackie Chan said he saw it over a dozen times when it debuted in Hong Kong.
My mother loved that movie so much, that I grew to hate it. She's been dead for a decade, and I watched it at Christmas last year.
It's a decent story. Musicals still kinda suck.
My 93 year old mother is in assisted living and watches The Sound of Music every afternoon. She's worn out 3 DVDs. Last time I got her a new copy it was a limited edition box thing with a Certificate of Authenticity and everything. Limited edition meant she got 1 of 500,000. Serial number, hologram, etc..
I had the misfortune of playing a Nazi in our high school production of SoM. I still have the arm bands, spats, and Luger around somewhere. Explain that to your Jewish wife!
My wife loves this movie.
I was sick of it when I was still a pre-teen living at home. Wizard Of Oz is better.

So the movie was what, 15 minutes long?
I loved the "Lonely Goatherd" scene (but that doesn't necessarily make it a great scene).
I liked it because the scene was produced and performed by a famous puppeteer named Bil Baird, and his wife Cora (NOT the actors).
The Bil Baird Marionette Theater was in Greenwich Village in the '60's and '70's, and I spent a lot of time there. It was a quirky attraction for me as a youth.
"The sound of music" and "grease" were played regularly by my mother and sister(who died a week ago) growing up. I dont look like i'd know the movies but i know them well.
i also love Outkast and Andre 3000 so this track is super berkin cool to me.
I watched it every year when it came on network TV as I was growing up. I still enjoy watching it every couple of years.
In the grand scheme of things, it's better than most of the movies that have come out in the last 2 decades.
I keep waiting for Steve McQueen to appear in the background jumping a fence and roaring thru the meadow .......
