Not sure if this applies to Verizon devices, but it won't hurt to check..

Find out if your smartphone is unlocked BEFORE making a port request. I had to pay a fee after porting a locked TMO smartphone. The lock berkeleyed up the port procedure, meantime the old account was closed.. so I had to re activate ($) on old carrier, request unlock (took a week) then finally unlock before I could use the new sim. Something about a ($) bag of dicks comes to mind...

JohnRW,

Is there any advantage or saving for using PagePlus standard plans versus monthly plans?

I'm finding that I don't use anywhere near 1200 minutes or 3000 texts, but I'm managing my data usage constantly and I felt like I burned through 500mb pretty quick.

Are you burning through data quickly?
Let's check.
Text BAL (short for balance) to PAGE
The answer you get back on data will be how much data you still have.

In reply to PHeller:
Since this is a new handset to you, have you downloaded a lot of Aps? If possible, do this over wifi.
Do you have home wifi?
If yes, also go into The Google Ap store (Play Store). Once there, get into the settings of the Ap store. Be sure it is set that Aps will only update over wifi.
This should help reduce your data-thirst.
Reduce video use and do not move photos till you are on wifi (like if you are uploading to Photobucket.)

The $29.99 plan you are on charges 5 cents per mb for overage data. That means 500mb more would cost you another $25. If you are going to be using this much, then you could consistently spend the extra $25 to get the $55 program which gives you 2.5gb.

Personally, I have never turned on/off my cell data.
I check GRM, my local newspaper and a number of other websites alot. I use the wifi function at home. I am not on the book of faces. I only use Pandora, etc over wifi.
I have used less than 200mb since the 5th of last month (3 weeks usage.)

honestly I don't know... I got mine used with a good ESN from a friend who upgraded... the easiest way to go about this would likely be goto one of your local pageplus dealers :-/

2 part answer.

  1. To use a VZ handset on PP, that handset does not have to be unlocked.
  2. But, in your case, you are a current VZ customer and while still a customer, VZ can verify that you have in fact met their demands (the contractual term) and as such have the right to have the handset unlock if you wish. This should be as easy as a call to VZ customer care (if you see such thing as easy.)
I am not sure if a corporate store could complete it for you or not but I think they may (with some reluctance and a hard sell sales job on how you should get back into a contract.)
