Census Workers.

I work from home. About 3 times a week they show up at the door. I don't want to fill out the stupid thing that's why I didn't send it in. I just don't care enough. I told the girl today to "just make it up" and have a nice day. It's like they don't get it. If I didn't fill it out yesterday. I'm not doing it today. I would have filled it out, but the first one that showed up just pissed me off so no one gets one. Where did they find these freaking people and are they paid per form or what?
If it's not these people it's the ice cream truck that seems to think it needs to drive by 9 times a day. I need 100 acres with a house dead in the middle.

You could just fill it out. It seems like one of the smaller responsibilities of our residents. I took me maybe three minutes to do. I suspect you've spent more time than that opening the door for census workers.

Three minutes is probably generous, when the form came in the mail I think I had it all done and back in the envelope faster than that. The point is, it's simple to do - if you would have filled it out in the first place they wouldn't be coming to your door.

It's not like they are violating your rights, for that matter, the census is there to make sure you are properly represented. Even if you are a single person on 100 acres in the middle of nowhere.

I take it you don't vote, and don't bother complaining about the your congressman, since they are not....

By refusing to fill it out, or answer the 10 questions, you are causing the federal government to spend more and more money, you don't want that, do you?

P.S. they don't take you guns (unless you start shooting, then the nice men in uniforms show up)

What happens is that you show up as un-censused in their computers so different census workers keep coming back to your house.

So you need to break into their servers and change your information in their database. Make a switchblade USB drive and leave it in the census office's lobby, when someone pops it into a computer it gets infected with a machine that sets up an SSH & VNC host and makes an outgoing SSH connection (on port 443!) to a VPS you bought with a stolen credit card, and sets up a reverse forwarded port. This is what you use to connect (be sure to only connect to the VPS through the Tor network, including when you sign up)

Once you're in, see if you have any access to the database from the owned machine. If not, you may have to see if you can see the database server over the network or an IT department machine you might be able to infect. It shouldn't be too hard.

Or you could fill out the form.

You sound like my neighbor - he is adamant about not filling it out saying he doesnt want the government knowing anything about him. I tried to point out that after filing income taxes, getting a drivers license, paying property taxes, etc., the few simple questions on the census couldn't possible reveal anything new to the powers that be.

Then he proceeded to tell me that he could have me fined 100.00 for not answering his questions. I told him to send me a bill and shut the door.

Now I'm just waiting for the fine.

I could be wrong but aren't you legally bound to only question number 1 which is how many people lived in this house/residence on April 1, 2010.

I am pretty sure the other questions about name, race, gender, etc are all optional.
This is how I filled mine out and I have had no questions since.

I think you should just send a note to congress and have them change the Constitution so you don't have to be bothered with this anymore, I am sure they will get right on it.

Anyone remember what it takes to create an amendment to the Constitution? Isn't it something like a 3/4 vote in both branches?

update: I just did a quick lookup, it's 3/4 of the STATES. So I guess that means I need will need to fill out one of those ballets to get this thing through... I'm not sure I am up to that... sorry.

I filled it out and sent it in, using "Person A", "Person B", etc. as the names, with everything else provided accurately.

I've got kids in public school, so they know it all already. After the fuss in the news about this year's census being more complicated with all kinds of personal questions, I was a tad apprehensive, but the form was very short and straightforward. I filled it out in the aforementioned three minute span and mailed it back. What's the big deal?

Heck now if you wanna worry about your rights being violated move to here to Oregon and get a concealed carry permit then have newspaper reporters and who knows who else be able to demand ALL the information (name, address, place of employment, SSN...).

Guess that means if I want to carry I should just open carry (legal out here except in a few cities).

They don't.

Founding fathers specified a head count, and a head count only. If you fill out the first question and the first question only, nothing will happen to you.

If the government wants to snoop into your private life, the census is about the least effective way of doing it. I don't see the nefarious purpose. Then again, I didn't go out of my way to provide lots of information either.

If you refuse to give out the information or you deliberately give inaccurate information, you can be in legal trouble. According to United States Code, Title 13 (Census), Chapter 7 (Offenses and Penalties), SubChapter II, if you're over 18 and refuse to answer all or part of the Census, you can be fined up to $100. If you give false answers, you're subject to a fine of up to $500. If you offer suggestions or information with the "intent to cause inaccurate enumeration of population," you are subject to a fine of up to $1,000, up to a year in prison, or both. Here's the official verbiage:

1. Refusal or neglect to answer questions; false answers

(a) Whoever, being over eighteen years of age, refuses or willfully neglects, when requested by the Secretary, or by any other authorized officer or employee of the Department of Commerce or bureau or agency thereof acting under the instructions of the Secretary or authorized officer, to answer, to the best of his knowledge, any of the questions on any schedule submitted to him in connection with any census or survey provided for by subchapters I, II, IV, and V of chapter 5 of this title, applying to himself or to the family to which he belongs or is related, or to the farm or farms of which he or his family is the occupant, shall be fined not more than $100.

(b) Whoever, when answering questions described in subsection (a) of this section, and under the conditions or circumstances described in such subsection, willfully gives any answer that is false, shall be fined not more than $500.

Whoever, either directly or indirectly, offers or renders to any officer or employee of the Department of Commerce or bureau or agency thereof engaged in making an enumeration of population under subchapter II, IV, or V of chapter 5 of this title, any suggestion, advice, information or assistance of any kind, with the intent or purpose of causing an inaccurate enumeration of population to be made, shall be fined not more than $1,000 or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.

So you refuse to be represented? All you HAVE to do is answer how many people live in the house- as per our Consititution.

What are you so afraid of? Answer the question, they go away- simple as that, and you can take pride that you did someting that our founding fathers put INTO the consitution themselves.

I just don't get why that's so bad.

This is what I did and havent heard BOO from the census board. Of course I doo live in the middle of no where down a 1/4 mile gravel drive way behind a fence and gate. Not 100 acres but close.

If you're not here illegally, what's the big deal?

By not filling it out you could skew the numbers in favor of someone, some party or other ethnic, income grouping that you don't support.

I filled it out. Took me more than three minutes though because I wrote all over it - pretty much filled in all the space where there was not type about why I am not answering any question that has nothing to do with how many people live in my house. All the other stuff is BS. I was especially upset at the part where they assumed I was a liar. Question 1 how many people lived in your house on April 1, 2010.

Question 2: No, really how many people really lived in your house on April 1, 2010? WTF is that. They either think I am stupid or a liar or both. All the other crap like is my house a house or a mobile home, what ethnicity I am, my phone number, etc. is just a load of crap. I didn't answer.
