Hypothetically speaking- if a P.E. has stamped a document and there is a typo, or Figure A is showing the wrong image, but all the calculations are correct can the typo be fixed or the image be changed without a revision update and a new stamp? Or would changing the document void the stamp?
This would probably depend on the state the P.E. is licensed in, so hypothetically if it was one of the 4 westmost states in the Great Lakes Region, what would happen?
My personal thought is that its like a notary stamp and any changes voids it.
Trying to, hypothetically, figure out how much someone has berkeleyed up.
We always treat revisions as a completely new document and old one is void.

Typically you would have the drawing sheet reissued with the revision clouded and a fresh stamp.
The other option is to have the PE issue an 8-1/2x11 sketch with the correction on it, also stamped, that supercedes that portion of the drawing. Most jurisdictions will accept a stamped PDF of the sketch so at least you don't need a whole sheet with a wet signature.

Ok. Now to draft an email.
Thanks guys
We reissue a new sheet with the revision & reseal. As I understand it anything added to the drawing after it is sealed is not valid, because it could easily be done without the knowledge of the responsible charge engineer.
That being said, unless the typo alters the meaning I wouldn't ask them to redo a sheet for just that. If they are already revising the drawing then I would ask for any spelling errors to be corrected while they were at it.

In reply to secretariata (Forum Supporter) :
Figure A was the same image from the previous calculations. Needed to change that, did a cut/paste job that cut off half the letters of three different words.
Now he is saying he checked with the P.E. that stamped it and the P.E. said that was ok.
I have my doubts.

One (Legal) word all PE's are familiar with: Errors and Omissions...
I also agree and find it difficult to believe the PE said he is fine with it, knowing the mindset of most Engineers. Most are obsessively Professional.
That said, if the PE is OK I would be concerned with the overall attention to detail.
Little, inconsequential things like that become big problems in the field, as I'm sure you have seen.
My 3.2 cents (inflation)...
