Several days ago,two cops were serving a warrant on a sexual predator. One block from my house. Two large pits charged the cops. They could not be seen from where the officers entered the property. End result- I heard 8 shots, sounded like .45s from a Colt. (As in, emptied the clip) One dead dog, and a slightly chewed up cop. No mention of poor puppy, why did they do that. Those dogs, and their owner, were well known in the neighborhood, but not by the cops.
Different situation, and if that's the whole story, they're completely justified.
In the town I live in, a year or so ago the local SWAT team executed a no-knock warrant in the middle of the night on a "suspected" drug house. They shot the homeowner's pit bull which was crated at the time. Homeowner was asleep in the next room, surrendered quietly as did his wife and toddler, never went near the kennel. Doesn't make much sense to me how killing an animal in a cage is making your job easier or safer.

My brothers job had him renting a house across from the street from Road America. He would call with car noises.......
my cousin was off duty and shot a dog that was attacking a woman and child outside his house, and my dad happened to know the people whose dog it was. he got the "that monster killed our pet he wouldnt hurt anyone, he just got out of the house" story from them.....
but i'm sure this one is different, a little puppy like that couldnt hurt you if it wanted to.
looks like atlantic City politics.. out of all the mayors that town has had since I was born.. only one has not been indicted, found guilty, and done jail time
In reply to mad_machine:
Did he off himself on his way to jail
In reply to Derick Freese:
Nah, his name was prolly Jimmy Hoffa.....
It all comes down to the way you look at things. If you watch Godzilla backwards, its about a monster that lovingly puts Tokyo together and moon-walks into the ocean.

And this is just the governors of Ill. Now you have to start listing the county officials that have been convicted and all of the aldermen too.
I grew up in Chicago but moved out 40 odd years ago but still in Cook County.
I plan on fixing that as well sometime in the near future. Wisconsin here I come!
Meh, Chicago politics to me is just that, politics. These idiots were just stupid enough to get caught
Nope, Chicago politics have their reputation for a very good reason.
I'd be out of this state in a heartbeat if I didn't have a good job here. Worst part about my job is that it is in Illinois. If it were ~2.5 hours north, 3 hours sw, or 1.5 hours east, I'd be a much happier man.

Most of the places that it is a dangerous job get compensated fairly.

I don't disagree with your statement. I'm looking at moving to Indiana myself due to the cheaper cost of living than Illinois.
I just hate that people act like Chicago is this horrible place because of the politics. It's not. It's far from it. Does the city have a reputation for corrupt government? Yes. Do I want to live there? No. Is it a great place to visit? Yes.
Back on track...the whole "cops shooting dogs" thing has reached epidemic status here in GA...Atlanta specifically. It doesn't have E36 M3 to do with politics.
Also, fwiw, little Spuds Macenzie there was my wife's LEAST favorite breed when she worked at an animal hospital. The ones she encountered were berkeleying psychotic.
ymmv.

In a similar fashion, think about the great triumph the American space program is when viewed backwards.
Chicago rocks, and Illinois can be a fantastic place to live......in the Spring Summer and Fall.
This story focuses on what seems to be a trigger-happy cop. This could happen anywhere, in any town, not just Chicago.
Although -- because it happened in Chicago, it makes me wonder if there is more to the story that we aren't hearing about. --Did the cop know the dog owner beforehand? Had the dog owner been in trouble before? Did the dog owner owe the alderman $$ or favors? Is the dog owner dating the cop's ex?
Sometimes a simple story isn't so simple.

Are you serious, this is pure ignorance and insulting.
Yeah I said that.

Hi Aussiesmg,
By not taking the bait, I think N Sperio is doing a convincing job of pointing out the shortcomings in Aeromoto’s sweeping assessment of law enforcement professionals.
That or perhaps he’s just preoccupied shooting lettuce, chopping dogs or whatever cops do for fun these days.

It is most definitely NOT OK that cops have carte blanche to shoot dogs. It shouldn't be "instant death if the dog gets anywhere near him". This sort of thing is a power and intimidation ploy pure and simple. One of these days it's going to backfire.
I've got a gun on me, and you draw a weapon and shoot my dog, my next assumption is I'm your next target. Yup its gonna backfire on you.

If it was coming at me or my family, based on wifey's experience...confirmed two seconds ago, I'd shoot it. They're short, but stout, muscular, possesive, and of the "don't let go" variety. Ymmv.

My faith in law inforcement was restored years ago when they wouldn't let my cousin join the force. He fits that stereotype to a T. He is ignorant (but well educated), Egotistical, and loves the power a uniform gives him. Out of the military 15 years.. he still puts on his uniform everytime he gets the chance.
Sadly, the Post office did take him

The pizza looks funny too Don't take it so hard. Everyone's city sucks. Either people who live in the sticks hate it because they don't trust cityfolk with their fancy teeth and stuff, or it is inferior to another city like, New York.
You are correct Wally.......
Whenever I miss the smell of decaying garbage I long for New York. Chicago's amount of trash in the streets is clearly inferior to the massive amounts of refuse in Manhattan on garbage day. Chicagoans should litter more.....
People in New York are also much better at being rude. So yeah, Chicago has something to shoot for there too! Damn polite--inferior Midwesterners!
but yes......everyone's city sucks....except mine!

You would shoot a cop because they shot your dog? I don't think that would end well for anyone involved, but most of all you.
