Would any of you mind getting this from Aldi and letting me know how close it is to a proper Chicago sandwich? If you try it and you hate it or it's nothing like a proper sammich, I'll even kick over the cost.
I gotta be honest, this stuff blew me away for a frozen beef, and if it's half as good as at a proper sandwich stand, I may need to orchestrate a trip in the not so distant future. Been wanting to come out for pizza anyway.
And yes, I know, ditkas have their own. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet, this was just an impulse "throw it in the freezer for when we don't know what we want" purchase that really paid off.
I like it. Just had some a couple of days ago. SWMBO did have to doctor it up by letting it marinate with some red pepper flakes to give it more kick, but as is, it's fine for people that don't like spice.
The Walmart/Sams stuff is pretty good too. Just had it this past weekend.
I don't need to buy it as I've had their sandwiches. Good stuff.
Somebody recently posted Buona Beef is the best - better than Al's or Portillo's which rank at the top.
One key is to thaw it in your fridge, heat up the gravy only, then drop in the meat to heat it up. If you cook the meat too long it gets tough/hard. We get the Portillo's catered package on Christmas Eve every year.
And don't buy cheap bread....Bada Bing
