Am I the only one that questions the fatties every time they see one in a scooter? Seems to me you wouldn't need that scooter if you got off your fat ass and walked.

I try not to pass judgement on them... obviously there's more going on there than just obesity.

I'm not so sure. I know some of those scooter fatties and the ones I know it's plain old laziness and eating too much of the wrong foods. One of my 500#, no actually all 3 of my 500# friends swear they don't eat much, but they think that food they eat just prior to and after the meal don't count. One thing I've noticed all of them seem to be addicted to bacon. I'm just sayin'

maybe if they replaced the electric motor with a bicycle crankset with a big honkin flywheel, that might help some, at least for the morbidly obese couch potatos. not so much for the people who actually don't have use of their legs any more, though...

Ding. Just like one of the guy's I work with who drinks 2 diet cokes a day plus eats lots of cajun style of cooking. He isn't fat because of his body, he's fat because of what he does to it.

Hell, I have a fast metabolism and am considered a skinny guy, but after two years of being a student I definitely gained the freshman 15 (mostly in the stomach area).

Right before I went to school I had a 6 pack from working physical labour jobs for 2 years Working on getting back to that!

Yabbut... don't you think there's an underlying illness that makes it acceptable to live like that?

Bingo...

I have a brother-in-law that is a walking heart attack about to happen...and regardless of what his sister (my wife, the cardiac nurse) tells him, he doesn't see himself as at risk... He's comfortable with himself at +/- 350#...

I think the illness is we no longer take the time to slow down and think about what we're eating. We're always rushing off somewhere, and grabbing a quick meal. We can thank the fast food industry for catering to our laziness... and can only blame ourselves for falling into the trap.

What pisses me off to no end are these obese people who pour themselves into their minivan and get a handicaped sticker for their car because they have diabetes and park right at the front steps to McDonalds.

Something seems to be wrong with this picture.

If you are obese, you should NOT be able to have a handicaped sticker that allows you to park up front. you should be made to park waaaaaaay out in the parking lot to walk your fat a$$ up there and work off some of that weight.

Just sayin...

In my family:

  1. Daughter has type 1
  2. I'm type 2
  3. Mom has type 2.

Thankfully, it's not up to you. It's up to medical professionals.

Not impressed.

Now, if they souped up those Rascals, made them pop mad wheelies, corner at 1.0+ G's, well then they're my kind of fatties.

So,I've been retired for two years, had bypass surgery and found out I'm a border line diabetic 6 months ago. I also have a major phobia about needles,so the thought of injecting myself with insulin was a major incentive to do anything needed. The Doc told me I could try to manage with pills and a diet but doubted I could. I've lost 30 lbs and can control my glucose levels really well with the dieting. I recently went to a retirement party for a former coworker and the first thing I noticed was how "portly" most of my old friends looked. Obesity is so common that most of us think a mild case is normal. For reference,my doctor told me that any weight over 171 lb for a man of my height (5' 10") is overweight !!

I'm with you there and the scooters in the store ought to be reserved for the skinnier people cause they've proven they deserve them. Also every aisle ought to have cones set up so you can practice your autocrossin' skills.

A couple years ago, Mom had double knee replacement. She got a temporary handicapped tag, as she wasn't very mobile during the recovery period. I met Mom and Pop at the mall to take them shopping. Pop parked in one of the reserved spaces and as Mom was extracting herself from the car, another car pulled into the spot next to them. A healthy looking 20-something guy got out of the driver's side and a healthy 50-something woman got out of the passenger side. They headed into the mall, looking unchallenged. Pop, who is notorious for speaking loudly without a filter on his thoughts, said, "Wonder what their handicap is?" Young guy spun around and snapped, "My mom has anorexia! She has low stamina!" and hurried into the mall.

It's my understanding that in the state of WI, 350lbs is the eligibility weight for Handicapped tags.

Apparently, even people who think they're fat can get handicapped tags.

You wanna see some scooters? Come to the Turkey Rod Run here in Daytona around Thanksgiving. I swear the official uniform is a guy at least 100lbs overweight, wearing a Hawaiian shirt, and straw hat buzzing around in a scooter. Every now and again they will get up so they can grab another deep fried twinkie with chocolate sauce.

mmmm....healthy!

What pisses me off are people who judge others by how they look.

Some of those people may just be lazy, but I don't know that and neither do you.

I resemble that remark, but you've got to admit the odds are on my side!

OK with the Choo Choo I immediately made that decision, but usually there's a little more observation going on before I begin to mentally make rude remarks about them.

In reply to DeadSkunk:

Don't fear the needles. I did, too, until I tried them. They're so small that I hardly feel them. I stick myself three times a day.

Then again, losing a hundred pounds wouldn't do me any harm, either.

Don't buy that completely. A few OK maybe more years ago I was 180 lb, 34" waist & midriff and 5'11". Of course I was also in better shape, I was in the army then and excersized to include running 5 miles every day. Now the same 5'11", 200 lbs, 36" waist and slightly larger midriff and not in as good as shape. Bad knees doesn't help matters now in trying to excersize. Can't run anymore so I walk, not as often as I should. After recent physical therapy for tendonitis in my shoulder I have decided to try to get in better shape so it won't happen again.
